Is Dynamat the solution?

I have to get rid of that damn rattle coming from the back deck when the sub (barely) hits! I'm going to mess with it tomorrow. Has anyone tried Dynamat? If so how much should I use and where? If not, does anyone have any other suggestions? I hate how ghetto it sounds! Please help!

Thanks

I put dynomat in the rear shelf area. Fixed the rattling problem and the bass comes out clearer. It might also be worth mentioning that I have 2 10 inch subs now, and the 8 inch is disconnected.

My car is at the dealership as we "speak" for this VERY REASON!!!

Such bad quality... I got this car (over the likes of the Focuses and SRT's of the world) because I figured the quality (inside and out) would be superior. Well, I have few complaints about this car... but one of my BIG complaints is the snap, crackle and pop that comes from the rear-deck area whenever I drive around. This is the 3rd time I've brougt my car there for this reason so... hopefully 3's the charm! Loj68's dealership hooked him up good! You may want to PM him for more info. They literally replaced the whole sub enclosure for him after contacting Kenwood. I was thinking about turning up the juice to blow my sub up but... anyway! THAT's your course of action. You can try to fix it yourself but a) that's tough and b) you shouldn't have to.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Never had clunk or hesitation so I shouldn't complain... but it's my nature so I can't help it!!! I hate popcorn and don't need my rear deck poppin it whenever I take a drive!!

If it rattles while driving then I would take it back and try to get them to fix it. Mine didn't rattle until bass hit hard, so I couldn't expect them to fix it.

*slight threadjack *Why was this moved, its msp specific especially if the stock sub box in the car is a factor.

weather stripping:D
hunt down exactly where it is rattling, and put weather stripping between the 2 pieces;)
total cost, about $2:p

i get alot of rattling too..i was thinkin about dynomat but not sure if its worth the price

doesnt dynomat muffle the sound why not jam some cheap rubber (weather stripping) where it clatters?

my car is going in for front/rear bushings + padding of the rear area courtiousy of Browns Fairfax Mazda, i'll see if they actually fix it

weather stripping will take care of most all rattles, except when large pieces of sheet metal are vibrating. and that takes a hell of a system to do:p

dynamat doesn't really muffle the sound. it's a sheet metal insulation that adds weight to the metal, reducing the possibility of it vibrating;) it doesn't cut down on road noise that much, either:(

dynomat/weatherstripping

i dynomatted the top of the area between the back seat and rear window. it still rattled the plastic panel almost as bad but sounded a little better inside. i added foam weatherstripping where i could and took most of the rattle out. it still vibrates bad enough to vibrate against the back glass. i think 1 more strip of weatherstripping will stop that. mine was quiet until i added 2 jl 12's though. i need to dynomat the rest of the trunk still. on good bass tracks the bottom edge of the trunk lid is vibrating about 3/8" and you can see some vibration in the quarter panels.

did you put weather stripping across the entire back edge against the window and the 3rd brake light? the quarter panels need a good bit of dynamat to keep them from vibrating, trust me, i've got a couple cracks in my paint from the flexing:(

I fixed it this weekend. I just took the back deck off and added some double sided tape to a few of the plastic contact areas. It was really easy and only took a few minutes.

got wake? that was the spot i missed and its been too cold to mess with it. when the bass hits much at all it makes the back of the trim vibrate pretty violently against the back window. might fix it this weekend. i think im going to put some 6x9's in the holes back there. that should help some by sealing it off a little better, although i will probably need to put some kind of baffle under it to keep the bass from distorting the 6x9's from below. it never seems to end...

put some weather stripping under the edge of the 6x9's, cause i know mine would vibrate loose from the flexing of the rear deck, and it would cause a nasty squeek:( weather stripping under them and tightening them down took care of the problem, till i just took out the 6x9's and rear deck, and left them out:D
