Is clearcoat worth it?

I'm going to pick up my MS3 today and I told the dealership I wanted to sleep on the clearcoat option. Is it a nobrainer? Should I get it? I think it was $495. I didn't realize cars didn't come with a clearcoat anymore. I was planning on getting it, but thought I'd check here first. Thanks for any input.

The clearcoat will protect your paint, i have a yellow p5 and a red one,the red is clearcoated and the paint shines more the yellow one is fading. I never new clearcoat was an dealer option.

Are you sure about this? All cars have clear coat on them or it would be bare paint.

I think they are offering you a clear scotch guard type stuff that goes over the paint and they do the seats as well. Thats what they offered me but its not going to be repainted with clear coat for only $500.

You better find out what clearcoat means from this dealer. The paint on all MS3 is a clearcoat type paint, no extra money. If he is talking about some mystical chemical treatment, forgeddabbout it, it is a rip off. If he is talking about a 3M clear film, sometimes known as a clear bra, that's worth considering.

^^what he said, all cars come with clear coat, it might be 1 or 2 coats, but they all have one. if the dealer is taking about the 3m clear cover, i'd go for it.

Its some stupid spray they put on the paint that protects it from what they said so its a bunch of BS. They told this to me after I asked the fleet guy who wold me the car what wax he uses. I suppose you can never get a honest non sales type answer from these dip s****.

I've heard of these treatments. They run $600-$800 bucks, and it's supposed to protect against bird $hit n stuff. A friend of mine got it, and they did his interior too. $600-$800 to watch water bead of your car & interior??? Hardly worth it.
