Is Anyones Ms6 Smoking Bad

After Installing The Cpe Downpipe My Car Smokes Bad Below 1500 Rpms Mostly When Moter Is Cold. Cpe Said Its The Turbo And No Fix Anyone Else Have This Problem

I've noticed some smoke after running the car to warm it up. It'll smoke pretty bad for about a mile and then just stops. I have never noticed any oil loss on the dipstick though, so I'm not too worried about it. The only reason we can even tell it's smoking is because we don't have any cats to clean it up before it hits the tailpipe.

hey guys i had the same problem when i did my exhaust but after i had the battery un hooked a couple days latter to install a new one the car quit smoking ,i guees the cpu had to reset or something i would take the battery cable off for a minute the try it out.

i unhooked the battery that didnt work. CPE said that mazda has a problem with the turbo seals. Too much gap in the turbo seals is letting some oil get past and making it smoke.

Sheesh, I wish I had known this before i purchased CP-E complete exhaust, I might have waited until this Turbo seal thing was resolved..........ordered but not installed yet CP-E DP w/cat and CP-E cat back exhaust w/muffler......

if you got the downpipe with a cat you shouldn't see any smoke. I'll all burn off in the cat..

I asked cpe about a down pipe with a cat, will it still smoke thay said it will. your car might be smoking now off and on but with stock you cant see it as much.

Smoke doesn't burn off. If it is a grey smoke, I would say you are ok because my car does this sometimes too. If it is a white (antifreeze) or black (rich) smoke ide take it in and tell em to fix it. Also if it constantly smokes ide would take it in.

Smoke is lame but other than taking the turbo out and sending it to a shop to get rebuilt with better seals I doubt there is alot you can do.

yikes...smoke is not your friend. everythign i've read from CP-E seems to point to them being a very reputable company, watching out for things like this....guess they can't fix what Mazda screwed up though..

I am having the same problem with my MS6. As near as I can tell it's anti-freeze being burned. My theory is that the seals in the turbo cooling system SUCK. Either way it's kind of embarassing when you sit at a long light and your car starts to smoke. As it stands right now there isn't anything that can be done about it.

uh guys ANY car that you take the cats off will do this. the reason they said it will with a high flow cat is because it is still not as good as the stock cats so it might smoke a bit compared to stock. I have had high flow cats and 3 catless cars trust me. The car runs extra rich when it is cold, for many reasons, one of them is to get the catalytic functioning as soon as possible. the majority of a cars emissions are from cold starts or partially cold starts since the catalytic converter is not at 100% efficiency. plus its cooler out now since we are in winter so the exhuast is that much more visible.

The smoking is definitely NOT normal. The car will idle normally and then suddenly white smoke starts pouring out the exhaust. Strangely, it only seems to affect some cars, and not others, and is sporadic.

We experienced the issue first hand several months ago and it's possible that we were the first to report the problem to Mazda. We took the car to a dealer we have a good relationship with and they agreed that the turbo bearings were likely the cause of the smoke. A turbo bearing will seal from to the natural pressure created by the turbo itself. But when you idle, you're creating vacuum. Most turbo seals can tolerate some vacuum generated at idle, but for whatever reason the MS6 turbo seal backs off at idle and leaks. We're hoping Mazda will fix the issue, but replacing turbochargers on every MS6 will be tremendously expensive, so we expect that Mazda will try to deny the issue for as long as they legally can. The best thing you guys can do is make a stink and let Mazda know that you're upset. I'm told they have released a TSB for the issue however.

When the smoking occurs it usually happens when the car has been idling for extended periods of time (say, more than a few minutes). Having cats or not seems to be irrelevent since we've seen it happen on both. Everytime we've witnessed the smoking issue, the car has been at normal operating temperatures and running at 14.7:1, so it isn't a fuel mixture issue.

also, MS6Mike just called me he had this problem and was worried. He left the car idling for 15-20minutes and white smoke was coming out of it...when he accelerated...a cloud. There is not vibrations, or any extra issues/symptoms besides white smoke coming out of the exahust.

Obviously, as said/explained by CP-E, smoke is never good...and it could be what CP-E/Jordan said about the turbo seal, so im just double checking. He has the CP-E catless DP and CAI.

Is this really bad? is there something MS6Mike has to do immediately to his car to prevent bigger problems, or can he still roll like that?

The problem in the turbo seals wearing out. Right now, it seams the turbos are not cooling down, causing the seals to were away.

A turbo timer may help prevent this. Be it as it may, this is a problem Mazda is aware of. I sure hope they fix it, rather then sweep it under the rug...

Do any of you with a turbo timer have this problem??

I am having the same issue. Initially they tried to blame it on a coolant leak but as with everyone else that is having these issues it still happens after 3-4 minutes periods of idling. I want to get the CPE DP and exhaust but Im goin to wait until I can get this issue fixed so they cant try to cut the warranty. Unfortunately I will probably have to wait till I get back to florida after the summer as I have no other vehicle to drive if it needs to stay in the shop.
