Is a 2" thick intercooler too thin?

Core size: 30 X 6 X 2

Tanks: 2.125 wide X 7 high X 3.25 deep

Piping: 2.5 OD X .0625 wall X 2.25 long

There are eight cooling rows and eight fin rows on this intercooler.

The cooling rows on this intercooler are internally finned

Test to hold 35psi no problem

The intercooler that comes with my kits is 2.25 thick and it flows all but 700 cfms. Its 2.25 thick, 10 high and 18 wide.

you 03.5 guys dont have to worry about fogs, so you can get away with a bigger IC.

actually 3.5's have to worry about the plastic that houses the fogs.that intercooler will be close. my core size is 25x6x3 but my endtanks are bigger.i think my overall is around 30ish.and my 90 degree elbows just hit the fog cups.

Intercooler!!

Have a look in Maximum Boost. There is a complete section on IC and minimum flow vs. heat for the application. It might help you make a better decision. Personally, looking at it, it looks like a great modification. Anything bigger than that ******* stock IC is a step in the right direction.

I got mine from Japan. It's off a J-Nissan Silvia upgrade kit. It was difficult to fit it behind the bumper. I had to remove most of the middle part of the steel bumper behind the skin to make room. If you want pics let me know. I'll post them to you.

Thanks guys. Justin, everything is going to be custom made by me/my brother/and a my boyz that own a mobile electronics/performance shop with a lift. As for pipes you can buy sets of pipes for intercooler projects on ebay with silicone hoses and elbos for a decent price which is what I'm gonna probably get. As for BOV I have one already as you know. I'm probably going to take the stock one out and just go with one BOV.

Brian, what are the dimensions of yours?

Call me up sometime Justin we get together and talk about this.

Here is an early picture. It will give you an idea on the thickness.

The Blue lines and metal can thing in the left fender are part of the electric cooling system for the T-25. It has a seperate cooling system from the engine.

Damn, you really cut that bumper out huh? How tall is that intercooler? Are you having any problems with cooling and a/c charging in the summer? Looks nice though. What did you use to write Mazdaspeed on it?

Thanks.

Over 14" in height. No problem with heat. The lettering was printed on thick paper. Then I cut it out with an exacto and spray painted it on like a stencil with hight temp flat balck.

I installed the IC with one and a half inches of clearance from the A/C condenser. The temp does not go above what it did before and the A/C still cools like crazy. ( I Love My P5 )

Sounds good! You don't think that the paint will effect the cooling capability of the IC?

Thanks for all your input.

Thanks for all your input.

The thing is about twice the size that it has to be. No the paint is not a problem. Bugs collecting in it are, dirt/mud yes...Paint no.

It is also in a flowpath. The stock one does not have direct airflow.

I can send a pic of the front back together if you like. It's on the board elsewhere. Give me a moment to find it.

Looks good. Are your pipes 2.5" all around? You have the same turbo as the MSP. Based on my rough calculations the inlet on the turbo is 2.25" correct? And the TB is 2.5"?

Thanks again.
