Is 5 reliable?

I googled quite bit and I think almost everyone is talking about performance, speed, fun, look type of things. I am more realistic when buying a car. Besides pricing, I would like to know how it is like after 5 years or even 8 years. Were there tons of troubles and repairs? There was no review telling me that information. I don't know how long Mazda5 has been introduced and I am pretty sure now when it's new it is good after reading all the threads. But I am planning on keeping it for 8+ years and really hope it does not give me much trouble when it's old.

well it's only been out a couple years.
everyone on here loves their 5, and i mean everyone, i haven't read one bad thing. there are lil quirks with it being a brand new model but no one has ever said anything bad about it still

i have had my p5 since the beginning of 03 and the car itself is great. i have yet to replace anything on it except for the normal stuff:struts, belts, tires, and bats. i have 103k on it and it's great

common with the tires that come stock unforchunatlly.....i replaced the ones on mine before 20k but all the tires i've put on since have lasted around 40k....and i get ultra high performance tires.

tirerack.com is our friends......i can get tires shipped and mounted locally for around 400...and anyplace in town quotes anywhere from 5-900

Check this thread on this very sub-forum:

It contains a link to Mazda 5 reliability information. In addition to the very positive feedback from members here, the website linked in the above thread has hard data. We have ~40,000 miles on our '06 (first year they were in the USA), and it's been a terrific machine. Not without its quirks or minor complaints, but really solid and a good car that I'd buy again without the slightest hesitation.

MAzda2006. One problem. block heater was shorted.. replaced by mazda under warranty. Wait till 2012 and we should have a list of troubles to report..

You have 103k on your 03 5 already? I am glad that you didn’t have any trouble with it. We are leasing a Toyota Sienna and next month the lease ends so considering our needs and the money factor, 5 is a good choice. I just need to really make sure it’s reliable and last LONG because I hope I don’t end up paying a lot more on repairs.

I think he has a Protege5, different than the Mazda5. The Mazda3 replaced the Protege5. They didnt have the Mazda5 in the states until 2006 production.

A longevity tip: If you get an automatic transmission, change the fluid every 15,000 miles. No longer than that. No need for a flush, just a drain and refill.

Thought you were talking about 5 that really brightened me up :-). Anyway, the site I posted above unbelievably has tons of negative feedbacks. I am now really confused.

consumer reports rates the Mazda 5 as ....

Consumer Reports rates the 2009 Mazda 5 as recommended.

They break it down like:

Code:
Predicted reliability 3 Fuel economy	3
Owner satisfaction 3 Acceleration	3
Predicted depreciation NA Ride 4
Accident avoidance 4 Front seat comfort	4
Crash protect w/wo side air bag NA / NA Owner Costs 5

Where 5 is Excellent
          4 is Very Good
          3 is Good
          2 is Fair
          1 is Poor

I have 78,000 miles on a 2006 model that is now 3 years old. I have not had what I would call problems. The only unscheduled maintenance has been to replace all four shocks at a cost of about $600. I change the oil every 5,000 miles. I got 40,000 miles out of the original tires, I expect the same from the ones on the car now. I have not changed or flushed the transmission fluid and I have a a trailer hitch.

I am not sure what you want in terms of reliability, but I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Thank you all for the positive words. I will come back here to report when I get a new 5! BTW, is there much difference between 08 5 and 09 5? Should I get a 08 5?

I have around 38,000 miles on my 06 Mazda5, with ZERO troubles. I am now on my 2nd set of tires, but that is it. Regular maintenance every 3-5 thousand miles and that is it! You will be very happy with a 5, I know I am!

I am having problems with my 07Mazda5 stuttering but only when in automatic. When I drive in manual it doesnt do it. The dealer changer the pcv hose, coil packs and flashed the computer. Now they are telling me its my fault and need new tires???? Any body have a clue whats going on
