2007 Mazda 3 5 door
I have 2007 mazda 3 touring 5 door and it comes with an aux input in the center console. I love it, it is great but How can i integrate that with my stock car stereo system? I dont need to install an aux input being hat i already have one but just want to know how I use my cat stereo to operate my ipod? any suggestions?

You can get the ipod adapter from the dealer, however....... The OEM aux input that's in your center console uses the same jack on the back of the Hu as the ipod adapter. Mazda sells a switching box that will allow you to still have both of these hooked up so you can continue using the 3.5mm jack for something else. If you don't plan on using the 3.5 jack for anything else then that will save you about $120 on the switching box.

There are some other options for ipod integration on the Mz3 however. Look at My List which is stickied at the top of this section for all the details. All of the ipod integration methods offer the same functions (including the OEM one), except for the audiolink which also gives you a 3.5mm input.

Hope that helps.

hey thanks for the information, which one would guys reccommend for me? being that I already have the aux input in my center console I really cant decide which one would be best..any upsides to any of them, they all seem to be the same for the most part...any expierience or suggestions would be great. I would also like the best one for adding additional subs and speakers in the near future as well. thanks in advancee mike

No problem, that's kinda why I put the list together. ;) As to which I'd recommend...... Like I said they're all pretty much the same. The only differences are these: The audiolink provides a 3.5mm input, and the OEM adapter can be combined with the OEM 3.5mm input with the optional switch box. So far no one's tested out trying to plug anything different into the swithc box (sirius, phatbox, aftermarket ipod adaptor), so we don't know if it will work for any of those too.

Soooooooooo.... if having a 3.5mm adapter is something you want (plugging in someone else's player, etc) then I'd go with either the audiolink, or the OEM + the switch box. If it's not important to you then I'd go with whatever is the cheapest and you can get the easiest (i.e.- not on backorder). Overall the reviews of all of them have been alright. There's the occasional one that someone complains about when it doesn't work, but there are lots of people that are perfectly happy with them.

As for adding subs/speakers in the future. The ipod adapters have nothing to do with adding subs/speakers. If you're keeping with the stock HU then you'll have to hook a LOC up to the speaker outputs to convert them to RCA in order to run to the amps. The ipod adapter will still send the data to the HU, which will then send the signal to the speakers. It's like asking which CD player to buy to hook up to your home receiver so that it will work with the speakers you'll buy in the future..... it doesn't matter as long as it plays CD's.

My .02:

I've been going back and forth on this for a while, and will probably waffle again before I get my car and actually buy anything, but right now I am looking hard at the DICE unit. They make a nice docking unit with a video out. I can have the sound from the speakers, supposedly with deck and steering wheel control, and feed the video to a larger screen. I will also be using the Kuda mount (www.kudausa.com).

I don't know about the switching mount. I left the U.S. before satellite radio took-off, so I don't know if I will want the ability to add it or not. I suppose I could just wait to decide, but that goes against my obsessive-compulsive nature.

Well today I received my Mazda Ipod adaptor for my 07. I did not buy the switch box because I did not plan on using the AUX jack. Anyway, the install was easy (15 min) but the end result sucked :(. It appears you have to use the switchbox for the 07 whether you want to or not. I checked all my cables and everything was good. The display said "EX" but would not play my Ipod. The Ipod said "o.k. to disconnect" and was charging. This sucks, I do not want to spend another $100 +, especially if I cannot get any text on my display. This adaptor will be going on my wifes 5 and I will just use my AUX input. Or I might breakdown and buy the switchbox next month :D.

Is the switch box even available yet? Every time I ask the dealer they have no information.

I suggest contacting the supplier. This should not happen. I suspect there is something wrong with the iPod cable you bought. My guess is that buying the switch box will not help you.

I assume you removed the connector going to the aux jack, and connected your iPod cable to the same point?

did you use the head unit to initiate playback from the ipod? in otherwords, did you follow the instructions for using/controlling the ipod that came with the adapter kit?

lol! Yes, I used read/used the instructions that came with the adapter. It's pretty much almost the same as the old Alpine adapter. Yes, I did connect the Ipod cable into the AUX jack on the back of the headunit. I will retry it again today. I agree that the switchbox will probably not help, it's still going into the same jack.

Here is an update. I used my sisters 30 gb Ipod and it worked! I am sure all Ipods work, but my Mini was just too used and abused.

I was just about to run out and buy one of these when I was told that it doesn't work with Sirius installed. I still have to wait for the switch box. How unfourtunate. (uhm)

The switch box is available, Zero cool just recieved one and is working on reverse enginerring it. :D
