ION Intake Dynos 24 whp over stock at 4750RPMs

Just take a look in the new turbo Mag! I was quite shocked. Peak HP that was gained was between 5-6 whp but the most gained was 24whp! at 4750 rpms! This was on an unflashed car and it had an fmic.

I guess the run with the fmic yielded 159 peak HP while the new dyno with fmic and intake yielded 165 whp. I cant wait to see what the turbo back and 9 psi do. In their next article i believe they are having the car flashed by mazda too.

Good s*** ion.

PS : on a side note... from the pictures of their intake, it looks very similar to injens intake. Injens intake actually sits a bit lower in the wheel well. Im guessing the injen makes about the same amount of power. The only other difference i can see is that ions intake gradually tapers out from 2 inches to larger diameter where as the injen incorporates a sharp transition from 2 to what ever diameter the rest of the piping is.

In physics i learned that air travels faster in smaller diameter piping where the pressure also decreases. In a larger diameter piping as air moves through, there is increased pressure and slower flow.

Physics is cool sometimes.

no s*** ! Enough of this short ram rubbish. I say unless you have a ram intake hood then the short ram isnt much too more functional. Show me dynos and prove me wrong.

s***, 24 whp at 4750. Thats pretty awesome.

24whp? i hope you are joking...if i remember correctly someone tested just the fmic from ion and only gained 8whp at stock boost levels(fmic works wonders when raising boost though), and if you are talking about just the intake gaining 24whp i would really like to see the dyno...also just for my own reference what did they dyno the car at stock?

intake + fmic

if you say they got 8 from the fmic 24 - 8 = 16 from the intake

no maybe i am explaining things wrong.

Ok boys and girls, do we know what peak HP is? Ok good. Now do we know that our car makes peak HP at around 5000-5300 rpms? Ok good. Do we know that we dont have the same peak HP number all the way through a pull on the dyno because we gradually gain rpms when we drive in gear? Ok good.

Now that we have that clear, the mazdaspeed protege gained 24 whp at 4750 rpms on a dyno run. which means that lets say the car made 110 hp on the dyno at 4750 in a third gear run with just the fmic; with the addition of the intake the car made 135 hp at the same rpm and the same gear pull.(just an example not sure if it is exactly that)

s***, just pick up the mag and see for yourselves! Dont shoot the messenger.

yeah, he did say peak hp was only a gain of 5-6

what youre saying is it seems to have broadened the power curve a bit

this is not correct. the intake ITSELF gained 24whp at 4750 rpms after the install of the fmic. Now that doesnt mean it gained 24 whp at 4800 rpms, it may have only made 12 there, but at that one spot, 4750 rpms it made an increase of 24 whp over the dyno with just the fmic.

whew.

Damn, very nice numbers. I'm glad that I can see first hand what some of these products are doing for our car, that is before i buy anything. Again, nice work ION..

It's not hard to understand people.

Just like the flash is supposed to give around 5-10 midrange HP, but the peak HP is still the same.

why are you jacking your own thread? WHo's talking about SRI here?

Compare the 2 dynos from the 2 Turbo Magazine issues. I think there is something wrong.

Well, some people claim that the Injen makes no power w.out any other mods. I also heard that the stock air box does a good job so how come the Ion cai did so well???
