Interior Lighting

Drl lighting

I did not have to unscrew the DRL socket either. The p13w bulbs I got from Amazon went right in.

The DRL's come on when the car is gear and driving. They will not come on when the car is parked. I learned that the hard way LOL...

Either way, find a nice reflective area of a building and drive your car up to it to see the reflection, or like stromdriver said, have an assistant help you while you gaze at the glory of your CX5!

Thanx raden, gotta try again Tomm,,,yeah,my car was on park when I installed new drl hb3/9005 and checked to see if it's working,,,it wasn't ...so I took them out and put back the stock bulbs...so, it only work when I put car in gear,,,,,,wow....thanx...

Does the CX-5 have a small light on each of the 4 doors?
Unfortunately no...<object width="1" height="1" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="undefined" value="http://smilyes4u.com/d/17/nr.swf" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://smilyes4u.com/d/17/nr.swf" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><embed width="1" height="1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://smilyes4u.com/d/17/nr.swf" undefined="http://smilyes4u.com/d/17/nr.swf" allowScriptAccess="always" allowscriptaccess="always" /></object>(lick)

Quick question...Akira.. Have u ever had to deal with ijdmtoy.com customer service? They send me one wrong type HB3/9005 DRL led bulb and tried to contact them by email five times in 2days,but they never response ...no phone# to call.....crap....will never shop from them again...send them picture of the wrong item...peace out".......

I installed LED in the DRL...wasn't bright enough. This was before I realized the DRL is also the high beam...LED obviously makes high beam worthless.

So anyway, I installed some 2500k halogens in the DRL instead. This makes the DRL nice and yellow, and makes for a bright yellow highbeam. I also installed 4500k HID in my lowbeam since I have a non-HID model.

So here's the DRL (they are yellower in tint in person)

Here's the highbeam and HID straight on

Here's another angle of the highbeam and HID

Nice job jeebusm3!

When you flash the high beams at something, do your low beams come on as well?

only if the lowbeams are already on. I will also add that the 4500k in the lowbeam work very well, as the projector design in the CX5 is pretty good. The cutoff is sharp and the light output is fairly even.

Oh ok that's good. The only reason I asked was because most aftermarket HID units will become damaged if they are turned on and off rapidly.

I have a question about the aftermarket HID low beam kits you guys are using. My CX-5 is a Touring without the tech package. I was looking at installing this kit,

https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

Did you guys need to install any sort of error canceling device since the wattage is less than the stock halogen. For power did you just connect directly to the battery?

You shouldn't need one. Don't bother with that one from amazon. Check out DDM Tuning, I had their HID kit in my Mazda 3 i Touring and I never had any problems.

I second this. I know the owner of DDM tuning, and have been buying stuff from them for years....back when HID kits were $300. I've purchased a handful of their slim $40 kits and they are fantastic. Lifetime warranty on the ballasts and bulbs!

If I got the DDM kit do I need to get the HID harness or just order the 40 dollar kit and call it a day? Thanks

No you don't

As per DDM Tuning:

Use this relay harness to connect HIDs to cars with very small gauge wiring that cannot supply the initial surge current required to light the bulbs reliably. Symptoms indicating the harness is required would be intermittent starting or lights going out after being turned on for several minutes and requiring you to turn the lights off and back on for them to turn back on again.

Recommended for all 55W HID installations but most American and European cars work at 35W/55W without the harness. The harness is definitely recommended for Quad's and other ATVs or when running multiple HID installations. This harness is a fused relay isolation harness capable of supplying 20A at 12vdc.
Not required when using High / Low kits.

v-leds LEDs are definitely long lasting. They build top notch quality products.

bought many of their products for my RX-8 and they last years.

idjmtoy 18-SMD 5050 LED vs v-leds CREE Projector LED

CREE, looks quite nice because of the aluminum and projector housing.
p13wprojectorcreeled0.jpg

18-SMD, looks a little bit awful because of no housing.
p13w18smdled0.jpg

CREE, white color, with slight blue tint, the camera makes the blue tint looks like green tint.
p13wprojectorcreeled1.jpg

18-SMD, white with very visible blue tint, although in real life, it's not this blue.
p13w18smdled1.jpg

CREE on the left, 18-SMD on the right, the 18-SMD clearly have more blue tint than the CREE.
creevs18smd1.jpg

CREE left, 18-SMD right, the glare is different because of the projector housing.
creevs18smd.jpg

CREE on both, I like the color and the glare of CREE better than the 18-SMD :)

hmm...curious it cree's do look better, although my jdm's dont look quite as blue as yours does? maybe the white balance on your camera is off a bit?

can you take a pic of the cree ones, out of the housing but lit up? would like to see if the entire oval section lights up or if its just points of light inside the oval that do, thanks
