Interest in dyno day March 13th

Thank you sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar.

I am very pleased my my 230whp and 232wtq both peaking at about 5300 rpm. Very impressive for completely stock. I want to run a couple S2Ks now and see whats up. LOL.

For everyone else, I had a blast meeting you and I look forward to more meets. Maybe I can set up a Red Robin meet next weekend.

Post pics of the cars and your dyno sheet please!!

Asides from dyno-to-dyno variance... doesn't anyone find it odd that both MS3's put out almost equal hp and torque numbers? Seems that every MS3 dyno I've seen before now, mine and others', the torque was always at least 20 more than the HP. I suspect that Mazda tuned this out when they released the fuel pump and reflash TSB, to combat blown engines... my 250/282 dyno was with the original tune before the TSB...

Hahah okokok I'll stop obsessing about the 30 ft lbs :D

I've attached a pic of my sheet and the corresponding data log. Peak power was at just under 14 psi of boost at 5600 rpm... Leaving me some room for improvement for sure :)

Man I should start tuning other cars besides the Evo. If they offer the Racetuner or whatever Cobb calls it for the MS3, I'm sure you could make some changes and gain a ton of power. I see a couple things that could use some attention:

I'd say first get your AFR in check. It may not be knocking the way it is, but you have like no timing at spool up. Fatten it up during spoolup, increase timing and you should get a lot more torque.

Towards the top lean it out and see how the car likes that. Your timing jumps around towards redline, doesn't register knock but it could be anyways. If it's okay with the leaner AFR, then see if you can get timing to climb all the way up.

Do you have the ability to log load? It would make things easy to adjust.

For anyone who wasn't there when the Evo was dyno'd I made 371 whp 342 ft/lbs tq at 24-25psi. I'll post up my video, graph, and log later.

Hmmm I already made some changes today... just doing a little at a time, mind you, not trying to go crazy right off the bat.

First thing I did was richen up the low RPM fuel. Mind you, the way the Accessport is set up, is there are several fuel tables for closed loop and open loop, part throttle and full throttle. The closed loop maps are set to run a lot leaner in the low to mid RPM range. Looking at the dyno and log, I could tell that even though the throttle was WOT, the car was staying in CL and targeting those values. So... I just copied my medium and high load values from my OL tables into the CL tables.

Then, I looked at boost.. again, being conservative here, I wanted to just try to get the car to hold boost steady all the way to 6000 rpm, as opposed to dropping off. I edited like 12 different tables on the map, all aimed at maintaining requested boost and load from 4000 rpm to 6000 rpm (15.66 psi).

Went for a ride, put 40 miles on it to 'learn', then did some logs... I'm happy to report that the results were exactly what I was aiming for. Fuel drops to my 11.8:1 target by the time boost is up to 7psi or so, and boost now holds mid 15 psi all the way to 6000 rpm (it was a bit cool out, on a warm day it would be more like 16).

So far so good... I am going to aim at raising boost as much as I can without maxing out the wastegate duty cycle, right now it peaks at about 70%, and Cobb recommends not going over 95%. I figure I can get maybe up to a sustained 16.5 psi or so... 2.5 psi more at 5500 rpm power peak... should be good for a noticeable power gain.

Gonna have to dyno again....

Pfft, I am schooled in the ways of Sephiroth..... Knights of the Round, Megalixers, and Omnislash FTW..... EZ PZ. =)

you get a gold star *and* cookie..
1) for being the first person to actually recognize the name
and
2) for remembering those moves...but it dosen't matter b/c super nova pwns all, or at least is long enough to make you forget anything relevant to the game. (gah)

im buying XIII tomorrow for the 360, let the disc swapping begin!

btw, 500HP/535Ft/lbs here I come.

these are officially on order:

I knew where the name came from. Still my favorite RPG of all time. Star Ocean: The Second Story is right behind it though.

Yeah sorry I didn't get a chance to meet a lot of you guys at this dyno day. I'd be down for a Red Robin (or wherever) food and drinks meetup, but I'm out of town this coming weekend. The following weekend anybody?

Thats only a few parking lots down from where i wanted to meet this saturday. Hell, we can meet there. Seems more pratical. Let me know!

I just got the MP3 back up but still going to bail. Hopefully I will be under a p5 working. If it was really close I might clean up just for lunch but we will see.

I've got OT most of the weekend so I won't have time for a meetup. Jon, I might still be able to drop by tomorrow and give you my deposit for the gauge pods. PM me your address again so I can GPS it. I'll give you a call tomorrow if I can make it.
