I've just installed my cheapo intake, bought it from Ebay.. Installed it and it works great for about 3-5 mins then the engine light comes on, then another 2 mins, the AT light starts flashing. I have an automatic 2003 mp5.. Do anyone know what's going on, please help? I've even try taking out the battery to reset the ECU and it still doesn't work.. Please help

make sure all the conections are tight
did you conect the MAF to it properly ?
did you conect AIR temp sensor properly?

yes i did... checked and rechecked.. same problem, I even took out the battery 2 or 3 times for resetting. Should i use the grommet from the air temp guage from the old air box to the new intake?

haha...that is what a mechanic friend of mine said.. but what or which connector? i checked and rechecked everything.. i've just unplugged the battery cable and gonna wait 10mins before plugging it back and see.. any other suggestions r highly appreciated

hehe, that's why I dun install parts myself, since I'm a mechanical idiot.

i'm a certified computer administrator...but when it comes to cars, i'm also a total idiot.. please help =(

try putting everything back the way it was before, just to see if you no longer have this problem...

Check and make sure you didn't break the FPR solonoid. Also make sure it is not upside-down.

Check the Airflow Meter is flowing air at the correct direction.
It has an arrow indicatin the direction of the air flow...

It was the computer, right? The MAF sensor is reading all this new airflow, so the ECU thinks there's a problem. Time to re-set the ECU.
Disconnect the negative battery cable, pump the brakes a couple of times to bleed the charge, wait 15min, reconnect the cable, and the ECU should have re-set itself. The CEL should be off.

First of all, where is the FPR solonoid? I haven't try disconnecting the negative side of the battery and bleed the charge. However, I did disconnect the positive side and waited about 15-20 mins.. Still the same situation after putting the factory airbox.. Now my stupid alarm's acting up by locking the doors even I press the unlock button inside the car. Any other suggestions? thanks

Your never supposed to remove the positive contact first!!!

The FPR is a little metal thingie that went into the intake elbow, it has 2 rubber hoses on it. It should be to the left of the master cylinder.

That description probably didn't help much. Maybe someone else can describe it better.

The purge(FPR) solonoid.( And a good idea on how to mount it.) ;)

Hmm.. I think I know what you're talking about. The fpr is the one with 2 tubes connected to a metal plate? What kind of damage did I do when I removed the positive lead?

thanks all!!!

Thank you everyone for all your replies, it meant a great deal in troubleshooting for me. I have to thank eggynatey for your wonderful reply and guess what? it worked.. so thank you

So what does the FPR solenoid do? And would it really mess things up if it is upside down.

I'm a complete idiot on this topic. . .so bear with me.
