Intake confirmation..

So I'm about ready to pick up a CIA for my 08 ms3... I've done the research with different brands and how they may not be the same diamater of stock, and or not perfercted for the air turblance. SO, I was suggested to purchase Mazdas CIA as its the same diamater and I can only assume is designed to deal with this "turblance" problem. Truth?

But my main issue is the ECU reset. I've read a few different things, like all it takes is just a disconnect of the neg terminal, pump brakes to bleed the remaining power, then reconnect and you're golden. Then I've read you really have to drive it specifically for a long period of time under low work loads to calibrate it? Can anyone that has knowledge and past experience of this confirm exactly what needs to be done?

Thanks!

Edit: Also, do I need a fuel pump upgrade if I get a CIA?

This is the first I've heard about this. If you get any of the major brands you will be fine. Cobb, AEM, Mazdaspeed, CPE, etc. I personally have the Mazdaspeed CAI and it has worked perfectly fine. A local buddy of mine had the Cobb SRI and that worked fine also.

I never reset my ECU after the installation of my CAI. The ECU will recognize the increased airflow through the MAF sensor and will adjust automatically.

No.

I reset my ecu, force of habit tho with any power modding. I believe there may have been a certain mileage most people drive to let the car re learn the added air, I believe 100. As Willd said any brand is fine, I personally have a cobb sri because I did not want to mess with a cold air intake. As far as the fuel pump you will be good, I read a story on here of a guy that installed a K&N intake and needed a fuel pump but I believe that is pretty rare, never hurts to monitor tho.

I chose a CAI because I read of better power gains over a SRI. In hindsight I wish I had gone with a SRI. It's a PITA to get to the CAI filter to clean it and the install is much more difficult compared to a SRI. Just my $0.02 though.

You should not be doing the install with the battery connected anyway. Never do that kind of underhood work with the electrical system active on the car. One slip of the wrench and a wire gets cut, shorted out, etc. You'll be relocating the MAF sensor from your air box into the new intake and may have to relocate an electrical ballast as well. Any instructions on a CAI or SRI install will call for you to disconnect the ground/negative battery terminal.

Having said that, even if you don't the ECU will make its own adjustments to the new flow over the next 50-75 miles of driving as it normalizes the long term fuel trims.

OP, just disconnect that negative/ground cable to the battery when you're installing stuff under the hood. Then put it back as the last step. Then drive the car normally. ECU will take care of air flow changes over the next couple days of normal driving. Then drive it like you stole it. The change will bring a smile to your face.

BTW: Either CAI or SRI is good. I went CAI per mods in sig below.
