Installed Springs Help

I finished putting everything back together than something has gotten me worried. So a question to all of you who've installed springs/struts

1) I torqued everything down to the specs stated in the service manual but I was wondering if anyone put loctite/threadlocker on the strut piston nut (17mm top middle of strut assembly)

2) If I wanted to put some loctite/threadlocker into there I'm obviously going to have to remove/loosen the piston nut. Has anybody over loosen/removed the piston nut without jacking the car up (the car still on all four tires)? Would it be safe to do so (for both the front struts and the rear struts) Thanks.

#1 - I just torqued it to spec and didn't have any issues.

#2 - Not sure, I can't remember messing with that bolt.

If you're asking if anything will explode, I doubt it. :D

After my spring install I drove 5 hours back to school, and I had heard a rattling the whole time back. When I got back, I popped open the hood to find that one of those 17mm bolts was loose, so I just torqued it back down and it has been fine since. I guess I must have forgotten to tighten it more than hand tight during the install.

i would not put any locktite in there, you will seriously regret it if you ever have to take it apart for any reason. and no, removing the nut would not cause any problems, unless you jack up the car on the frame with the nut off...;)

The nuts that are used are locknuts anyway. They don't just fall off. I strongly suggest you do NOT put threadlocker on them.

1. Not me
2. Yes, and Yes, but I wouldn't do it - you've got about the biggest spring washer ever on there now.

Yes, you would be able to remove the nut installed (Keep weight on - do not jack). Use a ford wrench to hold the washer and an air wrench to pop it off.But like they said - loc-tite would not be a good idea...
