Injen CAI to SRI

So, just because I think it'd look a bit nicer (and so i don't have to deal with going into the wheel well to clean it), I'd like to turn my CAI into an SRI.

I've searched around, but I haven't found out as to what you do with the temperature sensor that is right after the MAF and before the filter? I can't just slap the filter on right after the MAF because then there'd be nothing to do with the sensor.

My friend and i thought about modifying the lengths of the pipes - shorten the longer pipe on the turbo connection side, and cut off the bend on the other pipe so that there are still two pieces, but the second piece is really short ... long enough for the sensor but that's it.

Any ideas?

From my experience, the CAI or SRI kind of feel the same. You hear the turbo spool more with it SRI. Throttle response is a littler better. Right now, mine is SRI.

converted from a CAI? or bought that way?

performance differences between the two are minimal, from what i've heard. motivation for this is merely for a diff. look, and easy access to the filter for cleaning.

I'm currently working on a setup that solves both of these problems while maintaining the advantages (however minimal) of a CAI. It's surprisingly easy and simple, but I'll take pics and share when I'm done.

well, i have the urge to just trim down the injen pipes and see where that gets me. definitely post up some pics, though.

i've seen pics of guys here on the forums who have the filter right after the MAF. i just don't know what they did with that damn sensor ..

My IAT sensor is dangling in the engine bay next to the filter (for now).

I've seen people just drill a hole in the rubber for the filter and install the IAT there...

i heard that not using the IAT would throw a CEL.

drill a hole in the rubber for the filter? i haven't looked at the filter in a while (seeing as it's hiding in my wheel well). i'll check it out when i get back. that could definitely be a possibility.

I want to try this as well with my Injen CAI. I heard just leave the temp sensor dangling, but some have said it leaves CEL and some say it doesn't. I don't want to mess with my pipes in case I want to go back to CAI again. I'm thinking about possibly doing it by drilling a hole into the filter and putting it there.

so when you say drill a hole in the filter ...

do you mean directly into the side of it? or at the end on the flat section (where it says injen)?

Not having the sensor in the intake pipe will not cause a CEL, I don't have it in now and it's running fine. Or if you prefer you can cut or drill a hole into the back of it where the filter connects to the pipe and then expands cut at the expanded part where it's flat.

just put it inside the filter. i set mine inside the filter then clamped it on the mafthe wire comes out the side but it still makes a good seal.

Holy poop in a hat. (boom06)
I think I'd be too scared of something getting sucked into the turbo.

I think that should work. I think some people have put a hole on the bottom side of the filter instead of the top side.

Puncture a hole in the filter with a knife or a screw driver.

Just stick the sensor in. Make a small hole and keep checking if the sensor fits in snug before you make the hole any bigger.

how would you put a hole on the bottom side of the filter?

and nvmsp .. where in the filter are you describing?

The air filter itself anywhere. The soft part that goes all the way around, punture it and the IAT sensor will fit in the hole tight. Make the hole anywhere you want on the filter, just poke a hole through the foam part.
