Infotainment system freezing 2017 CX-9 (Version 59.00.4494A N)

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a used 2017 Mazda CX-9, and the infotainment system is currently running version 59.00.4494A N.

Today, while driving with my Samsung S24 Ultra connected via Android Auto, the screen froze on Google Maps after about 20 minutes. It became completely unresponsive — both touch and physical buttons didn’t work. I unplugged my phone, but the screen remained frozen. I continued driving for another 3 hours. After turning the car off for about 10 minutes, the system finally started working normally again.

I suspect the previous owner may have installed Android Auto using Mazda AIO, since I believe Mazda only officially supported Android Auto starting from version 70.*

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or know of a solution? Also, I’ve noticed the system occasionally freezes even when I’m not using Android Auto.

Any insights would be appreciated!

Does your installation of Android Auto hardware include OEM components? It is highly recommended to update the firmware before installing the OEM components. I'm not sure if the process is different when non-OEM components are used.

I suggest reviewing the first post in this thread, then contacting Candurin with the required info for support with upgrading your firmware as a first step.

My car still has the original (older) USB hub — not the upgraded one that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay — and as I mentioned earlier, I believe Android Auto was added using Mazda AIO.

I’ve considered performing a factory reset of the infotainment system, but I’m unsure if that would remove any applications or tweaks installed via Mazda AIO.

Has anyone tried resetting after using Mazda AIO? Will it wipe everything, or do the tweaks stay in place?

If you're afraid of losing the AIO tweaks, no need to worry. Some smart guys figured it out how to install the AIO tweaks on the latest OS version. I suggest to do the update to version 74.00.324 and then install the AIO Tweaks. I have a 2020 CX-5 and recently installed the AIO on version 74. See pics.
