Infotainment System Bugs

Yes, we're still waiting to see what other system is superior to the Mazda 3's......

Some people, I'll tell you.
Buy a 25 grand car and expect a system that works better than NASA's onboard system.

Mazda's info is better than any other japanese maker, less buggy than any american maker and on par with the germans. What on earth were these people expecting?

Actually, I have to admit, Chrysler's uConnect system is the best in the business, bar none. It's unfortunate that it's attached to such terrible cars with terrible chassis and horrible drivetrains.

Sometimes it's a matter of priorities.

Purchased my Mazda 3 Sport GS in April 2014 and I have been noticing bugs with the infotainment system since the beginning, in a span of about 3 months:

- Not long after starting the car, the screen would become filled with tiny black and white dots (exactly like the interference screen on a tv). Had to turn the car off then back on to fix. This happened 3 times.
- When I started the car, I noticed the infotainment Mazda logo stayed on the screen for an extended amount of time (about 45 seconds). This happened once about 3 weeks ago.
- The infotainment system rebooted itself once while driving. This happened once about 2 weeks ago.
- And finally yesterday, I turned on the car and while on reverse, I was unable to see the camera image on the screen. And during the same trip, I was unable to play music from my MP3 player and the AM/FM options were greyed out. Turned off the car then back on and same thing.
- Then, later during the same day, I started the car and the infotainment screen did not turn on. Nothing could get it on. I turned the car off, waited 30 seconds, turned it on again and still nothing. Screen hasn't been working since. No music, no back-up camera, no navigation system, nothing.

Bringing it to the dealership next Monday. I still love the car. It runs great. But needless to say, it's extremely disappointing to have this happen. This sort of thing is not suppose to happen when your car is only at 7000 km of mileage.

I think it's appropriate to expect a system that simply works ! And not necessarily expect a system to be better to another. I wasn't told when I purchased the car that the infotainment system would be buggy or would not work properly or Mazda hasn't tested it enough or whatever reason. You buy something for 25 k, Mazda should make it work. No excuses. Final.

Typically, electronics will show signs of failure within 72 hours of operation, sometimes sooner. An exception can be due to improper solder (cracks after many years). The good news is that if your unit is replaced and it is trouble-free for a few months, it should remain trouble-free for the most part, for many, many years.

Wow. If I didn't know better, I would think this is an Apple forum where hardcore Apple fanboys won't acknowledge any deficiencies with their device, despite the facts. (rofl2)

My educated guess is that the software in the 2014 Mazda3 in other markets like Taiwan and Japan may "work" much better there unlike in the USA and Canada. My opinion is based over the years where other features were available in those markets (but not in North America) [Software] tech is pretty big over there. Besides, they have a different mindset than that of Mazda North America and the Mazda3s are (or used to be) produced in Taiwan as well as Japan for the Asian market. Customer service and satisfaction is outrageously important there. If there are issues, they are addressed and addressed expeditiously when it comes high ticket items like automobiles. We can't say the same thing over here.

Any how, the major annoyances with the infotainment system really shouldn't be very difficult to remedy with a firmware update; however, if they used crap parts from Mexico or other countries where they were not made to appropriate standards and Mazda skimped out on storage, RAM, or CPU power in North American Infotainment then there likely will be no fix ever. I do think this is very likely especially since Mazda North America really cheaped out on many things in their Mazda3 including a tiny unlit glove box, no lighted driver power window controls, extra cigarette lighter, and so on.

Having three Mazda3 models over the last 10 years, I can confidently say that Mazda is starting to be really cheap. I remember back in 2005, the Mazda3 didnt have an aux or USB port while virtually every other automaker and competitor did. Then there was that period of time Mazda choose not to have side marker signals despite earlier models having this feature. Now, this returned in the side mirror but it is very tiny compared to it's competitors with the exception of Honda who are also cheaping out. As a result, it was for this reason why we elected not to go with the luxury/tech package because Mazda has always trailed behind the automakers in entertainment features and technology (aside from mechanical engineering). Furthermore, I am so glad we didn't, especially since I experienced the blind spot warning system as being buggy in itself.

Brought the car to the dealership this week and the bugs are all gone. They made a software update which fixed everything. Hopefully it will last.

Upgraded to v29 a couple months ago.
Problem happened today.
After starting engine, I immediately put into gear and drove away.
I found that the infoSystem could not find the NAVI-disk. It basically said that your vehicle is not equipped with NAVI system, and showed a made-up compass, coordinates and elevation (a screen that I have never seen before).
After shutdown and restart, the problem went away.
Usually, I wait for the blue light to go away before I put into gear. During this period of time, infoSystem has the time to boot up properly.
This seems that if you immediately drive away, you have a higher chance to make NAVI fail to read the disk.
I will try new version at next oil change.

I had the same problem the other day with v27 under similar circumstances. I guess we have to wait a little longer.

Newer version is not always better unless the QA process is solid.
In our case, I don't think so. This software was released way too early and with too many bugs.
I can live with it because I don't use fancy features. v29 works fine for me for now.

Agreed!
I've got OS Version 28.00.100 which still has a lot of quirks. My local dealer (Sharrett Mazda) claimed this was the newest version and that there was no newer version on Thursday when I had it in for some other work (namely a maintenance wrench light that kept coming on randomly even after I reset it through the infotainment system)

I really wish the car would consistently recognize track tags on the USB stick and not forget where it left off every other time I start the car.

^ you might want to find another dealer. V28 is three versions old. If your dealer is that far behind, he probably is behind too on Mazda bulletins.

And yeah, newer updates are not always better, but most everyone also plunges in and update their iPhones or Android devices as soon as an update is available.

It would be ideal if Mazda pushed these updates over the internet and had us update the firmware ourselves using the SD card that came with the car.

Had the same problem with the infotainment system not recognizing previous tracks on my mp3 player when I restarted the car. But since updating to V.31, problem solved ! The system now picks up where it left off on the mp3 player every time I restart de car.

Hi Guys.

I read through like 6 pages and didn't see my issue and since I am at work I can't really spend the next few hours trawling.

So recently I noticed that when I pair my iphone 5s (version 7.1.2) I don't get alert and ring tones coming through the console any more. In fact worse than that when I am paired, I don't even get to hear them on the phone either. This is particularly frustrating as I recently picked up a side-gig working for Lyft

Anyone able to help??
