Inboard lift gate taillights

SOLD 2002 Protege5; Current 2008 CX-9 Grand Touring
Hi everyone.

I noticed that for some time now, the red portion of the tail lamps that are on the lift gate of my 2008 CX-9 do not light on either side. The reverse and license plate bulbs light. There are bulbs installed for the red portion. I'll check both bulbs this weekend. Two questions in the meantime...

What is the behavior of these lights - dim / marker only or bright with brakes as well?

Where is the fuse located for these inboard lamps and what is the fuse number?

Thanks,
ZoomFive

The inboard red section or the tailgate tail lamp uses small peanut bulbs (168, 194) that only act as "dim marker lamps". Your fuse is most likely okay and all you need is two replacement bulbs.

Thanks. I will test the bulbs this weekend. They're both blackish / mirrored looking. If it's the bulbs I'm surprised I didn't notice one side go out first.

Ok. Popped a set of white LEDs in there and back in action. White LEDs make the shade of red not quite match the brake lights, but at least I won;t need to give it another thought for some time.
