Impressed by the P5....Snow

So I have never owner a FWD car. I normally keep a 4WD truck around, but the P5 has all the utility I need in a truck an gets better gas mileage(a must for a DD). Of course it is more fun to drive as well. Anyway, the day after I sell my 4WD Ranger NC gets the biggest snow storm in a few years. I am really impressed by the P5's ability to get around in this mess. I also did my first "burnout" in the car. haha I am liking this car even more than I thought I would.

My car can't even keep stability in less than a half an inch of snow :[ I think it might be my tires

Unfortunately, the Ultra High Performance tires typically mounted on a Protege5 perform poorly in snow/ice, even when they are "all-season". The only UHP tire that does well in snow/ice that I know of is the Continental ContiExtremeContact (based on Consumer Reports' testing).

My P5 does okay in the snow. I have Kumho ASXs and they do okay but could be better, they are no substitute for real snow tires. My grippy brakes led me to slide into intersections on two occasions (no incidents), remember about increasing stopping distances people!

My 05' Mustang GT with Pirelli Snowsports was unstoppable in the snow.
In ONE inch of snow, the P5 with Toyo Proxes was totally useless, I barely made it home. Finally ,I got my Michelin Alpins on the P5 and of course, the thing is a snowmobile now. Its all about the tires!

Referring to Consumer Reports again, they gave the Toyo Proxes 4 their lowest ("poor") rating for snow performance.

185/70R14 Michelin X-Ice mounted on 14x5.5 Eagle talon rims.

5" sidewalls, plowing through snow!

Broke my front parking brake cable, is it a PITA to change it?

PS: 90% of how a car handles in the snow is due to good driving from the pilot...

I live right off campus. My car is white but it will rarely be on campus. I have seen a white, red, and silver P5 on campus, but I have not seen yours.

oh cool cool, i live in University Club if u know where thats at

ive seen a white p5 lowered on teins with yellow fogs and some sport20 stickers, looked pretty clean
he waved at me when i saw him downtown once, seemed pretty cool

Yeah that white car looks really nice. I see it parked on the engineering side of campus a lot.
