Hey guys just want to let you all know how impressed i am with the mx-5. atleast the new one!! I took an 08 out at my last day at the track and oh my gosh. amazing. it was bone stock and amazingly awesome. superb handling, balance, feel, predictability, you name it it had it!! i am soooo beggin my future bride to get one so i can have it for track days

If your wife gets it, likely she will be the one on the track, and will make you sit in the pits w/your grocery-getter soccer-mom (soccer-dad in your case?) hatchback. If you're lucky she will let you monitor tire temps and pressures, and "man" the stopwatch to monitor her lap times while she's out there putting carerras, sti's, evo's, corvettes, mustangs, radicals, and other popular track cars laps behind her.

and if you're really that impressed w/the '08, you need to take a 99-05 out on the track. Less power, but even better handling in stock form. Lower price tag, and more readily available less expensive aftermarket and stock spare parts available, too.

It may be turbo'd, but your FWD wagon is still a FWD wagon... let the wife have that car, as its inherently more "girlie" than a RWD convertible track-devouring midlife crisis postercar. (also when you get some time, youtube you some "spec miata" or "mx5 cup"... arguable more intense racing than any other offering)

Man, I just drove my first miata yesterday. Was searching for comparisons between the newer and older models.

I drove a 2000 model with 60k on the clock that a friend of the family purchased. It. Was. Incredible.

It must be impossible to drive the car without a grin. I have a p5 and like it's handling, but when the girlfriend and I took this little machine out/drop top...man.

I didnt feel like it was overpowered for its size, just right. I can imagine a bit of a learning curve if you dropped a bell-engineering turbo into one. In stock form it was a hoot. Started to rain a bit at a stop light, and just reached over the shoulder and had the roof up while we waited.

Light changed, and I tried what I learned here. "more gas = less rain on you when the tops down"

Was fun how easy the back end kicks out. It was wierd....looking UP at honda accords because miata's sit so low.

I kept up relations, waving at 2 other miata's and an rx7 we saw on the quick test drive.

Now I'm scheming how to dump her pos grand am and get 'er a used miata.

Just need to read about the differences between 1st/2nd/3rd gens. (pop up lights/funky 1 finger door handles = 1st, 3rd has the rx8 fender flares.

I'd love to try the 3rd gen sometime for s**** and grins.

I wonder how S2000's are to drive now. I realise they cost more, but I think the miata would be tough to improve on the fun factor.

Sorry for the long post.
