I'm getting a new PC!

I've always been a fan of building your own computer. All 3 of mine were built by yours truely. There's nothing more satisfying than seeing your project through!:D Like installing a turbo kit!:D

Dude, I'm getting two dell servers...
But don't get too excited, they are for a client, not for us :(

I COULD GET SAME DELL FOR UNDER 600 FREE SHIPPING AND FREE UPGRADE FOR 15' LCD.
WHY PAY MORE?

That's a decent deal. I've seen MUCH better deals on the net tho...My friend just picked up a Gateway 2.8Ghz, 10K SCSI Cheetah HDD (70ish GB), Geforce 4 ti4400 512MB of PC1066, etc etc. Bad@ss machine..fo rlike $1100.
Gateway's putting scuzzies on home systems??
Also, hate to break your stones, but LCD's suck.

I have to agree here. But they are a less costly FP. To some, that's all that matters. :) Gimme a 19" Trinitron!! (flash)
Dell's aren't all they're cracked up to be. I just set up a dozen new ones here at work...2.6Ghz machines. They don't benchmark anywhere NEAR what they should. BUT, they are nice and easy to work in, and their tech support is top notch.

Thes last sentence was key.most people just want a reliable computer, like a japanese car. Then there are those who want ferraris and don't mind spending big bux for initial costs/maintenance.

I hate Gateway. st00pid gateway. i had two of em and they self-destructed in about 2 years. Customer service? Tech support? psshh....they said I was outta luck and would never send anyone out. grrrr

My opinion is that same as other ppl. don't get built up computer, build ur own.
with 600 you can build better computer and u might save more.
and the 600 price excludes warranty. but all the softwares and liscenses, and other stuffs included.
i admit dell has best customer service, but it's not really worth to pay if know you about computers.
I'm planning to build my 2nd comp. my estimate total came close to 500. but it will be p4 2.6 , 64mb agp graphic w/ tv out, 256 ddr ram, 40gb 7200ppm hard drive, 40x cdrw+16 dvd combo with nice cool tower case.
but If you are still interested just let me know, i will give u more info on it.

Ah, simply put I don't realy trust anyone to make a good PC atleast dell makes millions so any software/ hardware problems are easily known and fixxed plus as you mentioned the tech support and more. Everyone I know that builds there own ususlay ends up with a damn frank-PC that needs constant adjustment and setup. I don't have time for that BS. I need a PC that can take any software load run it and not give me any s***. Even small PC makes Stuff is terrible. I and many people I know can make a PC but I know no well enough that the small margin of money I pay for the difference will more then pay for itself in tech support, Software, proper device compadabilty and overall reliablity.

I hate asking people like you ,"what PC should I get"?. After naming numerous manufactures it becomes clear that the only suggestion you have is build your own. If compac gateway and a million and one other companies can't build one worth crap why would i trust 1 person. I stick with the Dell, but I appreciate the offer.

By the way I can by audio/video equipment for less then stores buy it for with warrenty for myself and I don't have to build it myself!
:p

Don't get too personal bro~
Like I said, build computer if u have certain knowledge of it.
I don't like and trust any other brands except gateway and dell.
Becase like u said, they are the experts on common problems, ppl like u probably don't want spend time fixing own comp. instead just call up and ship them out for no charge is best option. that's why dell and gateway were known as... best customer service and it's worth it. I had packardbell, compaq, acer and Ibm. but these comps sucks bad. obviously, bad customer service and u also have to pay for god damn simple question.
anyway, if u still interest in dell offer i can give u secret code to their site, so u can get 150 off instantly.
my opinion is use money wisely. pay more doesn't mean the best.
just a thought:eek:

It's the black one on the right. 21" of madness....and the highest spec you've ever seen. ;)

True, but I know enough to fix all of my probs, etc...and if I had a 2 year old PC that broke, then it would just be an excuse for me to upgrade anyway. :)

Didn't mean to get personal.

No offense, man...but this post kind of shows your lack of expertise in the PC arena. Given, people may build crappy PC's with issues. But if the person knows their sh1t, and does things right, it won't have issues, period. The systems I build have a MUCH better rep than Dell or Gateway. Out of the 12 new Dells we got at work, 3 have had major issues. that means 1 out of 4 has a problem. My track record is WAAAAY better than that.

On top of that, systems that I build are much faster and much more upgradeable than a prebuilt. Oh, and prebuilts come with tons of crappy softare pre-installed. Not so much Dells, but Compaq, etc are really pretty bad with it.

I however, don't think you should build one yourself unless you have a good understanding of PC's. However, if you have a friend who REALLY knows his stuff, and can build a rock solid PC for ya, then do it up. There's things that you can do with a home grown PC that you can't do with a Dell, dude. Plus, when you buy from a vendor like Dell, you're really limited to hardware choices. There are usually some very good hardware options that you'll never get, since Dell (for example) does not have a contract with that specific vendor.

Oh yeah, and just as an ex of tweakablility of a home grown PC...the PC I built in July (Legobox) is a measly 1.2Ghz Duron, but will murder the 2.6Ghz Dell PC's we have at work in many benchmarks. More for less, man. More for less.

I just picked up the new Sony VAIO PCV-RZ14G with 15" LCD ... cant beat it for $1600 after rebates -- especially when you have no idea how to build your own.

- No just lack of trust for those that say they can build them.
- If your better and cheaper then dell why didn't you just build the ones for your office. I think your office has the same opinion i do.
- I don't know much about computer at all and thats exactly the way I want to keep it too.
