I parked my car today at a chevron.. i walk out and go into the store.. as im walking in i look at my car and realize its rolling back! holy s*** i thought, i forgot to hit the e-brake!
oh boy, if i didn't catch that i would've already had a dent on my back bumper :(

anyway, today's lesson is don't be stupid.

youve been using that smiley way too much lately...yea, were gonna have to take that away from you...

Happens to everyone eventually. Soon it will become second nature to set the parking brake.
What worse is setting the parking brake and having it fail.

park it in gear ( reverse ) and then the parking brake. Reverse is better to stop roll if something happens and the least used gear

that is correct. better to be safe.....

gears 2,3,4,5 are useless gears to leave the car in. They aren't "park" Some cars you can get away with it, but at least in the MP3, she will roll out of every gear on a steep hill, except 1st. i was bored one day, waiting for the woman....AGAIN, and played with each gear.

back in 97, I had a 97 Prelude. I dropped into work for a second, parked the car on a very tiny incline and went inside. Came out to find the car had rolled down the parking lot ( not very far ) across the Main road here, went over the next curb and stopped between two parked cars just as if I had purposely done it. She had stopped because the back wheels hit the curb at the edge of the parking lot. I was VERY lucky. Of course I got in like nothing happened and drove off. :)

two days later, my father takes the car, and looses it as well. Same thing, it hit a curb and stopped about 10 feet before going into a stream.

Needless to say I put the car in to get the handbrake adjusted ASAP.

Once it happens once, you will NEVER forget it.

That's most of the reason why these remote starts for standards scare me. The ones I have seen, you have to keep the car neutral all of the time. My woman's mother has one, and is always leaving the car ona hill in neutral....and it seems she's not the only one I know of doing this in town. Just scarey.

A friend of mine has a remote starter in her Pathfinder.
She fired it up one cool morning from inside the house.
Went outside to find out it had pushed the tercel in front of it through the garage door, which fell on the DONE honda civic causing many thousands of paint and body damage to all three vehicles.

remote starters are bad.

I always thought if you were pointed down a hill you would park in reverse and if you were pointed up a hill you parked in 1st. Not true?

i just tell the woman to lie down in front of the car to keep it from rolling. That way if it rolls, it solves two problems

:)

Somebody give this man an award.
I wonder if there's a Nobel category for such ideas???

i always park in neutral with e-brake. Never even tried parking in gear. And i was planning on getting a remote start. The place i talked to about them said the one they sell has to be in neutral with the ebrake on when you turn the car off or it wont remote start.
