So I just heard that it is illegal to pump your own gas in Oregon, is that true? Why is that?

Same deal up in NJ too...full service only, you can't pump your own.

New Jersey passed the law making it illegal to pump your own gas in 1949. At the time, legislators felt it was too dangerous to have untrained people dispensing such a flammable liquid. (bs)

One of the things I dislike about Oegon. Some guy who hates his job pours gas on your car and rams the gas spigot in and out of your car like he's pounding nails.

Oregon is trying to create jobs... even if it drives up the cost of gas and creates jobs that most adults don't want. its kinda cute really, like a puppy chasing its tail. :p

It's a law, but it's not a serious law from what I can tell. Everytime I've filled up in Oregon (3, IIRC) I've done it myself and havn't even had to say anything to the guy.

Well to bad the gas doesn't really cost anymore then the gas pumped in Washington and not even close to the gas pumped down south in southern Cali (both pump your own states). We here in Oregon get wet enough that anytime our lazy asses don't have to get out of the freaking car and get soaked the better . I know our northern neighbors get more rain than we do, were just smarter I guess.

yeah, I can see that I guess... it was just so strange that someone told me I "couldn't" pump my own gas. (poke)

I think it's pretty much standard to have all gas pumps covered. I don't know if it's a law, but I have never seen a modern gas station without an awning over the pumps. If we did have that law, I would pump my own. I just dont like other people touching my car unless I know them, Kinda paranoid/protective.

when I first saw it I thought it was really weird... but, yeah, I think they keep that law to retain a few jobs... but gawddamn, that's what I wouldnt want to do for a living..

In NJ it sucks. A buddy of mine with a Turbo R32 almost got into a fight with one of gas people. The dumb ass "gas techinician" but 87, instead of 93 in his car. Causing a cell but no major problems. Thats after he was specifiaclly told to put in premium.

see... that's what I would trip about... and trip hard, I would....

oh yeah they are covered but the rain here sometimes goes sideways .Were just wimps. Now some good gas attendents will not pump fuel into high price cars and most of them are really good to shake the drops into the tank before they pull out. Gee that sounds funny

You just earned yourself a sig.

I hate when some tweak pumps my gas in Oregon. I make it a point to fill up in Vancouver when I can (where I live).

I pumped gas when I was in highschool... and anyone who wanted to do it themself I let them. I really don't what the law stated, I didn't get paid enough to care. Plus I understood why they wanted to do it. It's their car afterall.

People who pump gas are people I don't want anywhere near my car. They're either kids, or screw ups in life.... period.
