there was a thread somewhere that said that you could swap out for the coil packs and valve cover from a 1.8 L 626 and it stabilizes the voltage a little and adds a very little bit of hp. there are grounding kits, electronic ign., all kinds of stuff. i personally recommend a grounding kit to start and move on to a MSD ign. kit and the coil pack thing that i just mentioned. all of them are very simple installs compared to some of the other stuff that i have had to do.

You can get a kit that relocates the coil pack and adds wires.

Personally, I don't feel that they are much of a real improvement over stock.

They just move the coils...

You can replace two of the wires.. Thats about it..

I've got 10mm Nology wires (big waste of money) And they did relocate the coils to the front of the motor, but now I am having issues with my car running right, Ive had the wires on for over a year now, they work fine, I get plenty of spark and fuel, but the car just died on me yesterday, I replaced the coil packs and it fired up fine, then drove it about 6miles and it died again. It cranks over just fine, but it won't start. I've still got spark so I'm at a loss for what it could be. My buddy (Mz3 owner) thinks that it may be the alternator, I'm still not 100% sure that is what it could be. But any of you have suggestions on what it may be?

Chris

You can rule out the alternator by standing in front of the car at night with the lights on and having someone turn on the rear defrost (Or a high load system).

You shoud not see much change in the output. If there is a big drop then it's time to look into it.

See thats what I said, but I really am at a loss for words. I really have no idea what it may be. What do you think?

The car is a 2002... You could look for corosion on the gound leads.

It's easy to fix, Everywhere there is a set of black wires attached to the frame or engine, loosen and Remove , clean with some 200 Grit Paper and re-attach.

I dunno but if it does somehow end up being your alternator and you need a new one let me know...I have one stored in my room that I can sell to you because i was going to replace mine but then found out the alternator was ok...i kept the thing thinking i may need it sometime in the future.

If these were bad or needed sanding, wouldn't the car not start again? Because it did, after installing the new ignition coil packs the car fired right up, and we drove it about 6-8miles and then it died again.

There are more than one ground... (smash)

:)

lol, yes I know this. But I'm saying that if the bad ground were bad...wouldn't the car not start at all?

No it would run like ass..

I'm going to pull the plugs and see what they look like. Since Spring I switched back to 87 from 93. So maybe that is why the plugs are not firing, the build up of carbon may have built up so much that it won't fire. I'm just trying to think of all the little things it could be. Keep the ideas flowing.

Chris

So the plugs should look dark grey? Someone had mentioned to me maybe a Cam Sensor? Any idea what or where this is?

Chris

Wow! I'd call this a thread jacking, but that would have been a few weeks ago. Some good info, but did anyone help this guy?
