Ignition Systems for a Stock MP5

Hello all, thanks ahead of time for any suggestions you can provide!

First off, I purchased my '03 red MP5 5-spd new in Jul '03. Almost 5 years later I now have 42,500 enjoyable, trouble free miles on her (headbang) !

I am looking at page 8-4 in the owners manual, and it states that the plugs should be changed every 30,000 miles. Huh? Seems a little early to me. What's everones experience with this?

Anyway...

If the plugs do need to be replaced, I figure now may be a good time to upgrade the ignition system (my warranty has expired). What I am looking for is something that is easy to install and will give a boost in both performance and mileage if at all possible. Reliability is of the utmost importance.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

EDIT: After reading other threads, is it just better to stick with the stock parts???

I stick with teh stock parts. Ive changed and had nothing but problems.

Stick with the NGK plugs v gap or what ever they are. They are cheap like $8 for the set at your local autoparts place.

Thanks for the reply. After doing more research, I concluded that using the pre-gapped plugs from the Mazda dealer at a whopping $9.50 or so is the best deal.

Um, or you could buy plugs from an auto parts store for $1.50 and get a $1.00 plug gapper. There's no reason to buy expensive plugs.

the NGK plugs at the auto parts store are pregap and are OEM Mazda i jsut check ti with my gapper to double check.

(i would double check the gap wit hteh plus from the dealer. Alot can happen in shipping)

mazda dealer = FAIL...buy good aftermarket as suggested, gap them yourself and go to the movies and have some popcor with the savings!!;)

always make sure they are properly gapped even though they say they are pregapped. Mine were all gapped at .35 instead of .44

RReally...
.35''...thats one hell of a spark plug gap.

I would think you would use about a .035''.....But thats just me

/Sarcasm
