hows everyone doing ? im new to this thread so help me out.

i have a 2002 p5, had in since feb of 2002. and since than i could probably say i have had no complaints about the car.

but recently i have been having a really bad idle problem. i think its because of the cold but it didnt do this last winter. it idles so bad sometimes it feels like its gonna give out, like im saying 200-300 rpm.

i checked all the possible problems oil pressure, GAS, and plugs blah blah blah. i havent tried mazda yet cause i dont want to send it in if its something minor.

so if you have any info help me out. before im stuck somewhere.

Cheeers!

Does it do this all the time? after the car warms up does it go away? Does it happen right away? Have you checked the fuel filter or other filters on the car?

welcome to the forum.

first of all check all vacuum lines, 2nd check all electrical connectors are connected properly (easiest just to take them off and put them back on)

That's weird, tonight I was driving home and got off the interstate for a minute and my car was idling very low...it has never done this before...it was way below 500 and the car was shaking, this was after I had driven about 30 miles at highways speeds....I was wondering what I should check too...hmmm

i got that problem too, i ve been told that it's an known problem from this forum. For me, i went to dealer to have a idle reset.
So far i had no problem since it had been done a month ago

are you getting a CEL? i had this problem and a new EGR valve, some wires and i was good to go!

i would agree with twilightprotege about the vaccum lines. when i installed my intake i had the same problem and i checked the vaccum lines and i knocked on out pluged it back and BAM better lol.

A good way to check the vacume lines is with a stethescope or a piece of tubing. hold it up to your ear and put the other end along the areas you suspect might be leaking air. You'll hear the hissing noise.

ya i had an idling problem after this particular shop installed my camshafts....i even got a cel...turned out to be a vacume leak...car is all fine now..and no cel

i have the same problem, my car will get really close to stalling then bounce back up to higher rpm's. if i remember right their is a tsb on this issue. i will take my car in next week and tell you what they say. holpfully they dont give me s*** abt my mods.

Installed my injen intake and it rpms at about 1500 rpm in neutral. Shouldnt it be at about 750. I let the car warm up for 10 min and it stayed at that. Any ideas on this one?

check the plug on the mass air meter. that would be my first check, then i would look for other things unhooked. Its most likely that, or you could reset the PCM. I have never heard of an intake really causing this. I have never reset my PCM after installing any of my mods. When the weather is changing from a cold climate to a warm climate here my car does the low idling thing for about a week. Afterwards its fine, i have kinda grown accustom to it.

As I was slowing down for some lights, the engine dove down to like 500 RPM, and I wasn't downshifting, just gliding to a stop, and only using brakes..

Car felt like it was gonna die!!!

terrible feeling..

and only 3 months old too, well, gonna see if it happens again

that happens to me every now and then. nothing to worry about. it's just the engine conserving fuel etc until you stop. when you stoped the idle went back up right?

yeah, but I don't think it's engine trying to conserve fuel, probably some bad mapping in the software, just like the msp hesitation..

It's probably only brought on in certain conditions..

can i say piggy back....... damit i need to install my turbo first!!!!!! oh well i can wait until next week to get rid of my idle problems

I have seen a similar problem over the last week on my P5 as well. Pulling up to a stop light it seems to want to stall, but the problem is not consistent. On two occasssions I have been able to get the same behavior when slowly releasing the clutch when in neutral at idle. The engine will slow down below 500 rpm's and cause the car to shake then kick back up to 1000 rpm's. I was planning on taking the car to the dealership over my christmas break when I have some free time.

My car just started doing this the other day. Last night it was the worst in that it was doing it everytime I came to a stop. I tried 'ringing' it out a little but that didn't help. I guess I'm off to Mazda too.
