I was keyed

So my car got keyed Tuesday.. took it yesterday to get an estimate... $850!! It's on the front passenger door panel.. about a foot and a half long. I expected around $500, but I guess to match it and make it look like new they'll have to do stuff to the rear passenger door and the front fender also. Is that normal? I can't live with that scratch there, and I don't know if I should use my insurance. My deductible is $500 :(

My car is only 3 months old. Couldn't they have picked a older, crappier car with scratches already? If i knew who did it.. they'd be in the hospital, and their car would be ****** up. I'm really pissed. People need to start manning up, taking responsibility.. It's super irritating and all I can think right now is how ugly my car is.

I'd post pics but my camera is broken. Maybe when I get my new phone (IF i get my new phone now.. sigh). I've never felt like crying so much in my entire adult life. That car is like my baby. I'm 19, worked hard to get this car, working hard still to pay for this car, working harder to keep it nice looking, and some inconsiderate jackass comes, defaces my car, and leaves me with the bill. Just because you don't give a s*** about your car doesn't mean other people don't. It's like idiots who just open their ******* door into peoples cars.. and act like it's OK. Pisses me off.

If anybody has suggestions, or lives in Hawaii and knows a good auto-body place.. lemme know :(

is it keyed down to the metal? it might be able to be polished out, if not greatly reduced.

i'm not sure if it's down to the metal or not, but it can't be buffed out. I mean it looks like it's down to the metal, but it could just be the primer or one of the paint coats inbetween.. i'm not sure. It's white looking. the groove itself is pretty deep in some places..

Your right since you can see white, its beyond buffing. Comprehensive claim for vandalism. Turn it in and don't pay it out of pocket. Losses are expected in insurance and you aren't paying them a premium just because you are nice guy.

I filed a report with the police for vandalism incase i needed to use my insurance... but i'd rather not pay $500 dollars, have the insurance company pick up $300, and then have them up my rates for that. It's not worth it.

Its certainly your choice but your rates are not going to increase for one claim which is not your fault. Have a bunch of claims and that is another story. For me it would not be worth it to pay and insurance premium, have a legit claim and not turn it in and pay out of pocket.

if you don't blend the fender and door it will look terrible, you have to to make sure the color matches. that sucks man 850 does seem really steep for that

comprehensive shouldnt raise your rates. Thats like if ur car was robbed or you hit a deer. Not your fault.

yeah id talk to your insurance company. ive had like three claims with mine since i was 16 now 25. rear ended a lady when i was 19...she was slowing i slowed...then she out of nowhere locked them up on me. i had 2500 dollars worth of damage to my car.....paid a 250 deductible and called it a day. trust me....at 19 i thought my rates were gonna sky rocket. rates didnt go up at all actually. if you can claim under vandalism you might not have to pay at all depending on your insurance. had the whole rear window in my probe(94) so you know how big those suckers are....and a rear qaurter busted out. filed a claim...didnt pay one cent out of pocket for them to get replaced. call them up and find out what they can do for you. other one was for a stereo gettin stolen. paid me for the stereo...no increase.

Doesn't matter if its BI, PD, Med Pay or Physical Damage claim as long as its not at fault from an increase standpoint. Frequency and /or severity will increase your premium or get you cancelled or non-renewed. In laymans terms having too many losses or a claim(s) that total a lot of dollars paid out.

Only way this loss would be paid 100% was if he opted for NO deductible on comprehensive coverage.

he was debating payin the 500 dect for a 800 damage..rates wont change but its on ur record for 300 and could prob get it cheaper somewhere else..is it cosmic blue?

wow, i got my entire bumper and fender resprayed when i had a mishap with the garage. cost me $160 TOTAL and was done in 48 hours.

Take the door off yourself (labor costs include installing/uninstalling) and find a better place. Let them know you are paying cash and chances are they will give you a way better deal. They don't have to match s*** when its only 3 months old. All they need is the paint code and paint from the manufacturer and they spray it. You need to match on older vehicles because although you might have the correct paint code, sun dammage tends to lighten, so body shops try and mimmick that.

Plus the fact that when you go and try and sell the car, Vandalism will show up on the cars record .... no way in HELL i would let that happen for $300 bucks

it's black mica.

maybe I could get it cheaper.. but I also want it looking as new as possible. I don't know.. I'd pay anything, really (don't tell the body shop people that).. it's my car damnit. but I'd rather not pay extra to blend it if it's not needed, like cashmere said.

I'll talk to my insurance company.. and my friend's parents are insurance adjusters, they might be able to point me in the right direction.

i guess it depends how picky ya are as for cashmere's thought about new car no need to blend hahahaha i paint cars for a living i have sprayed many 2008 and i can tell ya even with Duponts vindicator (where ya put in the vin and it finds the best match) you are hard pressed to panel paint anything. if the distance and air pressure are different, or the metallics don't lay the same, of if its a slight shade off, or if the flop is slightly different you will see it. you might get away not blending a black mica but i bet anyone who knows paint will be able to walk up and go hm that doors been painted. straight black is the only color you don't need to blend....ps there is no such thing as sun damage to new base clear applications as you can buff it bc it doesn't affect the color just the clear
