3'-6" in northern Illinois versus 0-5" in Austin Texas, hence why super deep. Anything less is against code and will eventually fail structurally and need to be replaced so you might as well do it right the first time. Digging below the frost line prevents the effect of ground heaving when undergroundwater freezes then expands. Pretty much frost sucks and makes you work super hard to put a damn fence up.
what do you mean 0-5" how do you put a post in a 0" hole? Anyways, it was in Galveston, TX and the holes were at least a couple feet deep, just not 42" i don't think. Then again my memory is a little fuzzy.

Peepsalot that is the typical/average range of frost penetration in your area. Of course you cannot dig a 0" hole. It is just telling you that your post holes do not have to be very deep. I will forgive you for your comment because I know you were just playing around. (braindead I have family in the city of South Houston right next to you. I should call my uncles to find out the code for post depth in that area since they put fences in their yards.

Peace, Santos

alright here is the update,
1. holes dug (with brothers help)
2.holes inspected by city (they didnt even look check)
3. i have 7 post planted ( after filling holes half way back up)
4. post cement on thursady.

If you stop being a prick with your smartass comments then you wouldn't get s*** from people. I was trying to explain it to you but you had to make the stupid remark about the 0" hole. I will leave it at that because the last thing I need to do is get into another flame war with someone on this forum. Stay safe peeps.

It's cool man, I really didn't get the whole frost line thing at first. Never had to deal with frost. I ain't pissed at you. I just can't stand people that think natural disasters make good joke material. No respect for human life and suffering.

my brother inlaw is driving down to mexico to get away from the Rita i hope it is not as bad as the last storm. wilson

today my geography kids plotted an evacuation route out of Galveston. They all thought they'd take I-45 to Houston. Then I informed them that the rate of traffic is a measley 2miles/hour. With one day of time to get out, they wouldn't make it. I think that helped hit home. Also the fact that many who drive north to Oklahoma are only driving further down Rita's path and won't necessarily escape everything.

It was an enlightening day.

how about you ******* relax. it wasnt meant to be a joke. its the unfortunate truth. get your facts straight before you open your mouth about people making jokes and not respecting human suffering. you dont know me or what ive done to help those people. ive donated everything i can to help the hurricane victims. when i sold my DG lip to dexter, do you know where the money went? take a ******* guess, asshat. and guess where the 19 garbage bags full of clothes that i gathered up went to? yeah, so STFU.

I just didn't think your original comment was really called for. What is the point in saying that. I wasn't even talking about putting up a fence at this time, this was something I did years ago. The only reasons I could think for you to post something like that is because you were either trying to be funny or you were trying to piss me off. If that wasn't your intentions then I apologize.
I have just seen so much insensitivity lately that some people display and it makes me sick. I'm glad to hear you are doing your part to help those in need.

i agree that some people are insensitive about it, but there is a fine line between humor and insensitivity. determining the boundaries varies from person to person. apparently, i crossed into the insensitive side in your opinion and for that, i apologize.

down with teh innanets drama, y0.

i had the fence drop off at the house today will try hanging it over the next couple days.

its been a long time and i thought i would show what the end results look like. we also had a 10ft by 35ft patio done(cement cost $600). the small cement block is for the grill.
