I present to you, the Passion5

So I managed a bit of work this weekend, me and my boy Red went junkyard shopping yesterday and apparently it was protege day at my local yards. Each yard had a protege, a 99 and a 01; it's pretty rare to see imports newer than 1997 out there. I managed to get several misc parts I needed for the P5 and the correct KL jackshaft and starter, all for $71 :D.

What did I get done?
Yesterday (in addition to the junkyard runs) I managed to get the valve covers off along with the intake manifold. Not quite what I was hoping to see underneath, but I imagine using a quality oil regularly will do a decent cleaning job. My SR20VE in my SE-R was darker than this and after using Castrol Syntec for a year, the head looked a beautiful shade of light gold. I noticed my timing belt was chewing itself apart, I was hoping to wait on that for a bit but it looks like its going to need to be done prior to install. I'm out of town next weekend, hopefully I can put in a few hours this week and have pretty pictures for you before I leave.

In the mail this week:
- Exedy stage1 clutch
- WRX dual tip muffler
- Protege5 badges.

What am I waiting on?
- Timing belt kit
- Water Pump
- Make it pretty
- AC Compresor

WRX muffler! Glad to see I'm not the only one that loves their sound (if thats why you got it) and would like to mimic it to some degree. You're doing it right, even if the passion doesn't work out it you'll know how to drop it all into another shell if needed.

haha, I love the way scooby's sound! Their unique sound is mostly attributed to the exhaust manifolds; with a set of equal length manifolds, they sound like your typical 4cyl. I got the WRX muffler because I've always liked the dual tip look and I wanted something that wasn't too flashy or loud, my buddy has one on his turbo P5 and it both looks and sounds great. More than likely the car won't have a catalytic converter or resonator so I'll need something to keep the noise down.

I'll be spending a few nights this week tearing the motor down for timing belt and water pump and hopefully cleaning it up some more for paint.

Crazy looking build. I too have stepped out of my b13 se-r and bought a p5. I love these cars but nothing feels the same as the se-r. My b13 was a de-t, but my buddy did go with a sr20ve and it sure had some pull. Do you still have your b13?

Sweet! I sold my B13 to make room for a more practical DD (Enter P5). It was pretty sweet, wish I didn't have to sell it, but things happen. Here's a Link to my build thread and a couple of pictures.

Awesome stuff, you're a brave man !

Have you seen this supliyer in the uk http://www.fordprobestore.co.uk

might be of some use to you?

I gave them a quick look, shipping from UK may be expensive, but I'll take a deeper look when I get a chance.

Man I miss my B13. I hate the fact that I have no pictures of it in digital form because I sunk all of my money into it I didn't have a computer! haha. It was definately worth it. I'm excited to see how this one is going to turn out for you. Rough start but I think you'll turn it around like you did your b13

id love to hear a sound clip of the muffler on a p5. i know some people in my area with these from there stock wrxs and need to get rid of them

I don't think you'd get an accurate idea considering it will be strapped to a V6...

I'm sure I could get you a clip from my buddy's Turbo FS but rest assured there will be plenty of sound clips and videos later on :)

Sorry guys, not much has gone on as of late. I did get the block painted and had to source new valve covers since the ones that came on the motor had snapped bolts. I'll be ordering the water pump and timing belt items on friday...hopefully along with a few other stock bits to complete the interior.

I'll get some more pics up soon.

Well, I have a few updated motor pics. I haven't done much with the rest as of late. My personal life has wiped out the majority of the P5 budget so I'll need to get all my stock parts up for sale that I won't need for the swap. Here's the motor currently:

Still need a water pump and timing belt along with a set of headers and a FSDE passenger side motor mount. Slowly but surely.
