I'm finally looking to do some legit audio upgrades to the P5 to bring it into the 21st century. I think I have the base work done, its just a matter of getting some new speakers. I'm looking to do some component upgrades in the doors, I just have some 5x7 MB Quarts in right now. They were left over from when I did the upgrade of my other car and just happened to fit.
Right now I have the following:
Full car Dynamatted. Floor pan, rear seats, hatch, doors.
JVC In-Dash DVD Navigation
MB Quart 5x7's in front doors
Stock speakers in the rear
Stock rear-tire subwoofer.
I guess my question is what is the best speaker setup to get more midbass out of the front sound stage? I'd like to keep the doors stock looking (no cutting grills or custom kick panels). From all the reading i've done I think I saw the max depth of the speakers is 2.5". Does that include a spacer? I am torn right now between trying to shoe-horn 6x9's or just getting an adapter plate and running 6.5". I'm 100% open to suggestions on what anyone is running and how they like it. I listen to mostly electronica and some classic hiphop so more bass is needed.
I got a crazy idea of using the factory spare tire sub as a template for a custom fiberglass enclosure for an 8" subwoofer. Amp under the front passenger seat to keep all the space in the rear hatch. I use my car to carry a ton of different equipment and drive it 20k miles + a year... so i'd like to keep the spare if i can. Thoughts or other suggestions?
