alright i have asked soo many people how much boost you can run on a stock motor and no one has a clue. it varies for 6psi (which is stock duhh) to 20psi. can you please inform me. and if its not much can i get some ideas on how to make my car faster and some websites

PLEASE

I just made a reply to your thread in the Lounge, but ..

For the love of God, unless you have GOOD supporting mods, DO NOT boost over 8psi. Who in the everloving hell told you to hit 20psi? They need to be slapped.

I wouldn't boost over 11psi or so with select supporting mods on a stock engine -- mods such as the PG intake manifold, an upgraded exhaust manifold, an upgraded exhaust, some kinda intake, and DEFINITELY an EMS with a good tune.

If you want to go higher than that with boost, Brian is right -- you need to go forged.

I'm surprised Brian didn't yell at him to stay at stock boost levels.

My suggestions:
Without any type of exhaust or intake cooling goodies (CAI, FMIC), don't go higher than stock.
Without any type of fuel management don't go any higher than 8psi.
Without a great tune don't go higher than 10psi.
Without forged internals don't go higher than 12psi.

well i already have a injen cold air intake and a perrin 3" turbo back exaust and im in the process of a getting some kind of fuel management system. so after i get that then i might be able to run about 10psi right????

10psi with support 8 with Stock smic and no mods. 12 with tune mods and fmic this would be the most i would ever run. Yes there are guys runing 14-16 but its only a matter of time before zoom zoom boom.

Welcome newb. First off these cars are not meant for big HP from the factory, there are a lot of restrictions for making power. Besides the exhaust and the intake there is also the ECU, intercooler, injectors and of course the RODS. Once you have upgraded everything you can safely turn up the boost until then you are playing with fire.

i concur with this...although it reads a lil' funny.

stock: keep stock boost, maybe 7-8psi but it won't like you. fuel cut=not cool.
intake+exhaust+IC: 8-9psi.
intake+exhaust+fmic+EMS (untuned): 10psi
intake+exhaust+fmic+EMS (well tuned): 12psi, maybe 13 if you're feeling frisky EVERY ONCE in awhile on a cool day.

no forged = 13+psi is pretty risky. you'd probably be ok for awhile, but slowly the rods will begin to bend and it's only time and bad luck that determines the FS-DE's future...

also above ~13psi you're going to need bigger injectors. With any added boost don't forget colder plugs, weld the LSD if you plan on launching it, synthetic oil etc...

remember than getting an IC requires pipes, and a bov is a good idea.

one thing leads to another, none of which is cheap so be ready. Easiest route without EMS but still quick would be exhaust+intake in place of airbox+SMIC+8psi.

Over stock is a matter of time before zoom zoom boom.

I agree. I run 9 psi with only a SRI and stock, catless exhaust and have had no problems at all. I would definetly suggest a boost gauge tho. Going above 12 just seems like motor suicide, but then again, I knew somebody that had run 16 on their car, but dont try that, she said she was TRYING to blow her motor, the funny thing is, i dont think she ever did.

Seems like each car is its own individual!
