I found rust!

Today I was washing my car and I noticed that there is a patch of rust right behind my wheel well. It is on the rear wheel well right above where the rear bumper meets the rear quarter pannel. It is the size of a quarter and has already started bubbling the paint. I know that mazda has a 60 month/ unlimited mile warrent on corrosion. Any one know if that would be covered by it? I will post a pick of it and its location tomorrow morning.

do a search for rust/corriosion...i think there was a thread about this a little while ago. i believe the whole rust warranty issue has been met with mixed results at dealerships.

so that means what? some dealers will fix it and other wont?

The dealers won't touch it because it is a corrosion warranty. the rust has to go through the body panel completely (not just surface rust) before they would repaint or replace

some have, some haven't dealt with this. I'd say go to a dealer and see. Then go to another dealer the same day if possible. Shop around and see what they'll do. If they won't budge, write Mazda NA's corporate office. Always worth a try!

damn, this sucks...I hate seeing my car like this but its not worth paying 1000+ to get it fixed if the dealer wont do it. From what I have read it really seams like I am going to have tough time. I am going to go to the dealers tomorrow and I will post some pics.

I had rust develop on the black metal trim piece that separated the rear window from the small triangular piece. I didn't even question warranty, just took it in and they replaced. Of course, that's a bit difference because they just replaced the whole piece. Your problem is a body shop quality repair. In fact, I think that's how most dealerships cover the repair is by sending it to a body shop. Good luck.

not really connected but involves rust. i play SCA in arizona and my helm hgas tons of rust on the outside of it. i just took a power drill and a 3/4" disk wire brush and went at it for about an hour and the rust was gone. i know that the paint job will be costly but the rust will be gone if it hadnt eaten through the whole panel

I didnt get a chance to take any pictures or go to the dealer today. I needed to go to cleveland to pick up my dad from the airport. Tomorrow before the big snow storm i will try.

YES. It is covered. My rear fenders got repainted, and my car is a 2002.

They also repainted the part near the sideskirts because the sideskirts moving around chipped the paint off and there was surface rust. The shop even put a thin piece of rubber that can't be seen between the sideskirts and the body so that it won't ship more.

It's the ONLY time my car has even been to the dealership, and it won't go back. They were total dicks to me, until I came in with my lawyer at my side.

If his rear fenders are bubbling that's perforation. You don't have to wait for a hole, it has already gone through the steel that's enough. Feel up in the area (if lowered you'll have to jack the car up a little) between the rear bumper and the fender right behind the wheel, and you'll probably feel dirt and rust flakes. I make sure to slap on some gloves and wipe the crap out of that whole wheel well by hand every week or so during the winter. It's sad that our cars rust so easily but the zoom-zoom is so addictive!

my car is lowered...what would that have to do with rusting though?
