I don't vote

The thought of Bush getting re-elected almost makes me want to vote for the first time in my life. But I never will, here's why.

First off, the system is fundamentally flawed, in todays age of technology, something better and more efficient could be done. Why not have Ballots done with Tax Returns. If you don't file, you don't vote. If you don't want to vote, you don't have to. I realize people say it should be anonymous - but I don't agree with that. If you can't be responsible for your political beliefs - maybe it's time you changed them. Back to my fundamentally flawed thing - the electoral college. Now I could be wrong about this - never really researched it, but as I have been told by lots of people this is how it works. People vote, votes are tallied, then a representative goes ahead and votes for our state. What is to stop this guy from voting the other way? I'm not saying it happens often, but surely - it does happen. Even if it never did - it could. It's a flaw in the system. One that should be fixed. If you owned a home, and there was a back door - you would have a lock on it wouldn't you. Same deal - the way I see it.

Bush strikes me as the dumb redneck war-monger type. I just haven't been impressed by him. Clinton got a blowjob in office, and played the sax - call me simple - but I was entertained. This is more reason for me not to vote. I don't care about politics much, not enough to pay attention. The way I see it - Plenty of other people are paying attention and voting. My one single voice/vote, is not going to sway the masses in my favor. Also - why should it, I don't think that my views on politcs should matter - just not a point of interest for me. I'm perfectly happy just paying taxes and living my life. Taxes suck, the more you make - the more you lose. But it keeps our country running, so it's a neccessary evil. I'd love not to pay taxes, but I see the good it does, and I also realize it's the law. When I must - I obey the law. Plus if I didn't pay taxes, I'd just waste the money on something else anyway. Not that big a deal. If they made it the law to vote - then I would vote. I'd probably vote independant every year, but I would vote. If it came down between Democrat and Republican, I would just vote for the underdog. I'm just that kind of guy.

I'm gonna go do my laundry.

The simple rule is: "If ya' don;t vote than you can't b****" so vote or shut up.

wrong - free speech! Hence the first line of my post. The people who vote, who claim to love the United States and thus by extension the constitution - they protect the very right I am exercising.

"Isn't it ironic - don't you think" - Alannis Morrisette

(lol)

Yeah...ok...so how does this make sense:

"I hate the way things are right now, but (out of protest) I will do NOTHING to change them....Ha! Showed them"

Ummm...no.

The President of the United States' job is not to entertain the public.

I am not American, nor do I really follow American politics closely, but I think that Micah is commenting on the system rather than the actual leader. I believe he is somewhat justified in his argument because Bush actually lost the popular vote in the 2000 election, and yet he still won the presidency. Again, I'm not exactly clear on the details of the Electoral College, but you can understand being confused about someone winning an election with less votes than his opposition.

The sad thing is that realistically there isn't much any one person CAN do to change the way this works.

Well you know Micah, the issue that I have with what you said is this- Not only is it you feeling this way or just through straight apathy not voting- everybody seems to think that everybody else will take care of it so why should I? That's why we currently have approximately 36% of the people deciding the leadership and issues in this country. Now on top of that, the majority of people who don't vote are younger, so those of us that do vote have less of a say in what happens. I agree that the electoral college is broken, it was designed for a time when it was difficult at best to have a true sampling of voters- it comes from a time before the internet, cars, and the other pieces of technology that we now have, but unless we vote to change it, it will stay the same forever.

Voting season will be here soon, just thought I would do my part to discourage others from voting. It's all a part of my elaborate scheme to bring the USSR back into power!

Da!

In theory, Communism isn't such a bad thing.........wtf? (i don't know) i mean, it couldn't have been. look at how destitute Russia is now that there is no more U.S.S.R. they're so damn broke they had to sell off almost half of their navy for SCRAP METAL! the other way had to be better!

seriously though, the electoral college is messed up. i can fully understand how people can feel like their vote, their voice doesn't count for anything. but, as mentioned before, it won't get fixed without a vote. of course, it will probably come down to the people who vote whether or not to give themselves a raise. lol
what a country! wouldn't trade it for anywhere else! (cheers)
