Hurricane Sandy, flooding and CX-5

First, my thoughts are with all you impacted by the storm and I hope normalcy returns sooner rather than later. I'm amazed at how much water came inland!

Which got me wondering how well the CX-5 does in floods. Is anyone here unfortunate enough to have had to drive their CX-5 in water deeper than 9" or so?

Years ago my friend and I were stranded behind about 5" of flood water from a river that had flowed over it's banks. We were in his nice Saab (early '80's?) and I walked ahead in my rubber boots to check the depth. Since it was only 5" at the deepest I motioned him forward. About the same time the front cowl touched the water the engine sputtered to a stop. Turns out the air intake was below the cowl, it sucked the water up and required a complete engine rebuild!

I'm guessing we don't have this problem in the CX-5 but am wondering just how it would fare in such an emergency?

i parked mine between 3 bigger suv's on the night of the storm at the university parking lot (lol2)

Find out how high up your intake is. also, if you do try to ford water do it slowly and dont stop. keep pressure in the exhaust so water doesnt start going up there making it harder for the engine to exhale

better yet, if you have any doubts dont do it at all

driving in water isn't smart...but I got stuck in a flash rain storm, got "forced" onto a road I wanted no part in, and ended up in, I'd say almost a foot of water...no issues. just drove on through. luckily I didn't have to come to a complete stop in the deep parts....there were some cars down for the count already due to that, a honda accord and a malibu if I recall? The malibu was one of the early "re-make" models though.
