Hps Cold Air Intake

saw them on ebay. Here is the intake break down from my research:
Cobb/CP-E: Correct MAF size and both have an air straightener
AEM: Air Straightener, but can't confirm MAF size
Mazdaspeed: No air straightener and incorrect MAF size
Injen: No air straightener, but CORRECT MAF size

The HPS clearly has no tapering near the MAF like the Injen and I highly doubt they used the correct size pipe (as it really doesn't exist without machining). And there is also no sign or advertisement of an air-straightener so you are likely to get CEL's of one form or another. This is just a guess based on information at hand but nobody knows until you try. Seems to be that the MAF pipe diameter is the most critical on these cars. I recently installed the Injen (which advertises their MR technology for correct A/F ratio) and can say that the pipe tapers down to the correct size where the MAF is located. Idle's perfect and no CEL's so far.

All correct, except that I believe the AEM intake does have the correct MAF size as well.

possibly. I think they revised one probably does since it also has the air-straightener. Also forgot the Fujita

Fujita: no air straightener, incorrect MAF size.

If AEM has correct MAF size, then wouldn't the Mazdaspeed unit also since its made by AEM...?

the current AEM is VERY, VERY different than the mazdaspeed. It appears to have been completely redesigned including additional brackets, air straightener and possibly proper MAF size. The mazdaspeed is generic 3inch pipe, MAF mount, and filter. Was made by AEM but is leagues behind their current model for the ms3

My MS CAI is 2.5 or so inch piping...not 3 inch. Did they change the design since the first ones?

Just went to AEM website and its identical to my MS CAI, except it does not include a splash shield.

(scratch) This sucks... I want to see if there are any differences!!

The MS CAI does not have incorrect MAF sizing. Mazda purposely designed it like that for more power.
The issue comes in when you tune the ECU with a basic flash thats set up for factory MAF settings.
