What car do you have? I'll assume for the moment that you have a Protege.

You don't have to remove the dash. Pop the end caps off each side of the unit using a small flat head screwdriver. You will see 3 holes on each side. Two round ones and one long one in the center. The proper way to remove the unit is to get two sets of Ford removal tools (they are a U-shaped bar) and stick two in each side, push them to the outside and pull.

However, most people don't have much luck with the removal tools. I just used a pair of small screw drivers and worked each side separately. It will help if you remove the glove box and push from behind. If you have nimble fingers you can even pop the clips from behind.

That's about all the help I can give you. Good luck with your install.

thanks for the info chuyler..i can't imagine how to pop the end sides of the unit sorry for my ignorance, it's my first time to do this. my radio unit is already double din. do you have a website that will show this steps. thanks for the help!
