Guide How To Remove/Install Tranny and LSD or Disassemble Gears

I thought you were talking about the selector... but you mean lining up the shift forks blades to the shaft with the collar. Its easier to see how they line up out of the case then positon the selector hubs to line up when it goes back in to get the roll pin to line up much easier with an extra set of hands which unfortunately I never had. I have a disassembled tranny at work maybe I can give clearer advice after I refresh my memory in the morning.

ok, thanks for the tips..i read this entire thread and from the looks of it there is a second roll pin down low on the one gear shaft and knocking that out allows you to align all shift forks and those blade things with the assembly out of the tranny, then you install both gear shafts with everything on them as one unit, then tap in the upper pin, slid the shaft up and tap in the lower pin and its done...im bout to go try it..i will post results and or tips, this thread has been awesome!!

Just around the tab one time the punch or chisel was less messy you dont want one spec of that in your tranny!

This how to was so helpful, great write up it made pulling the trans easy.

I typically used a small (about 1/8" tipped) screwdriver to get in behind. Otherwise craftsman sells a nail set and chisel combo that has some small chisels that work well. But I almost always used a flat screwdriver when I bent them out to release the lock nuts. You don't have to get them perfectly unbent if you use an impact wrench as it can spin and deform the nut a bit to get it off.

I got it with a chisel I bought from lowes. I broke the chisel in the process, but got the nuts off.

another question, do I need msp axles for a msp--->P5 trranny swap? I have read a few posts some say yes, some no.

shane is correct. You'll wreck gears before the axles are a real issue unless you are doing regular clutch drops for drag racing.

Hey guys i just got all the parts i had found in today the clutch kit flywheel and lsd.. parts i couldnt find are
tranny seals
Oil seal
F003-27-238B
Transmission locking nuts
F520-17-628
F521-17-628a

any help on finding them or do i really need them ...

yes you need the seals. All but guaranteed to leak if you don't replace them, and they tend to get torn during the removal.

Locking nuts are more of a maybe. If you are good at removing them without damaging the bent tab too much you COULD get away with using them (and they are accessible with the transmission still in the car if it was necessary to replace later), but it's not really worth saving the 20-30 bucks on them and risk transmission damage because you didn't replace them.

local Dealer or one of the online Mazda Dealers is the only way to get those parts that I'm aware of.

thank you but i cant find any thing but one seal... thats all the dealers dont know what i am talking about when i give them part numbers ... i can get one seal from advanced auto but thats it... i dont even know what ones need replaced ......... if i could get the right ones and know where they go i would be great .... thanks for the help

Sorry but the dealer is an idiot then. The part numbers look right, but I don't have access where I am to my system to verify. They should easily be able to look them up on the transmission part diagram for you, and the same for the lock nuts.

the transmission seals are identical on each side, and just 2 of them (one for each axle).
