How-To: Proper Car Washing Techniques

So I used some paste wax on my car a while ago, guess i didnt completely remove it all, and its left a dull smear spot in my hood. What can i use to get it out? i bought some spray was today, it does good in polishing, but the dull from the wax is still there.

I will never use paste wax again.

Well, wax doesn't generally create dull areas. If you left too much on and it left a haze or smear, that should come off with washing and a buff towel. Dull spots sound like some other issue. Do you have any pics of the spots? And which wax did you use? There is nothing wrong with paste wax. In fact I still prefer a high grade carnauba paste to anything else. I love my sealants but some of my high end nubas just look amazing. And they certainly won't create dull spots. So shed a little more light on your issues if you can. A pic will really help. But it sounds like some other issue that may require some polishing.

Hmmm...
well, being that I can't assess properly, my sugestion would be to try some Meg's scratchX or even their paint cleaner. If you have a Harley Davidson store near you, go pick up some S100 Shine Enhancing Cleanser. It is the same product as p21s for autos. It is a great cleansing lotion. You'll want to use it all the time. If that doesn't cure the dull then you probably need some level of paint correction by machine.

is it okay to throw used towels in the washing machine with my clothes or is there a certain way it should be cleaned

Sorry for beating a dead horse here but, but does anybody know an actual affective way to get right of waterspots?

As for my routine, I usually do a semi-detailed every other week. The dirt particles sit on the surface of the sponge when you wipe so you are dragging the dirt over. It is best to wash your car in the shade when the surface is cool to the touch.

Nice documentation. I use two bucket system with grid guard. The only thing that I don't like with it is that is very time consuming and to many materials to be clean after the wash.
