How to paint my wheels???

If somebody can help me with his/her experience, I would like to know how to paint my wheels...

The thing is I just purchased a set of G-Racing SEKIs for my P5, and they originally come in the regular silver finish, with a machined lip (looks similar to polished Alu.).

The silver part I think its easy with some sanding preppin', though I would like to know if there's a spray can that'll make it easier due to the intricate area around the lug-nut holes (that will be damn hard to sand...!):( I just dream about spraying something on the wheels and then wiping the finish off easily:D

BUT... the machined part I'm not so sure... it can be easy if only has a clear coat and I just need to sand it off before painting it, or it can be more complicated than that... I'm kinda lost here

So please... if someone can help me out here with HOW TO advice and guidance... I want to do it myself,,, and no, I don't have a paint gun/compressor,,, and yes, I can paint:p

Thanks in advance for the help,
Andres.

Well I will have to find the name of the stuff but I know I got it at PEP BOYS> It is paint stripper that comes in a can. I used it when I repainted various parts on my jeep and my corrado. An example of how it works is I took my valve cover off to paint it and it had the wrinkle finish still on it from the factory. This piece was about 9 years old and dirty as hell. Well all I did was sprayed this stuff on there and let it sit for like 5 minutes. Then I just came back with a garden hose and sprayed it all of with water. Every little nook and cranny was free from paint. This will work on all painted surfaces so be very very careful with it around your car. As far as painting your wheels I would look into powdercoating as it will stand up to the abuse you are going to get with paint on wheels. I know that around here it is about $50 per wheel and that includes them doing all of the prep work. Or they do sell kits to do pwdercoating yourself but you need a spare oven to cook the parts in.

Thanks FuNwaGoN !

Terry from Spool Turbo also told me Powdercoating would be my best bet. Doing the painting myself would be cool, but regular paint would scratch right during the lug nuts tightening!

So I think I'll take your advice and try to find a powder doating shop around Miami.

Thanks a lot for the tips,

Andres.:)

You say there's a place that'll do it up there? Hmm...maybe I'll make the 4 hr drive again and have them powdercoat my wheels white. :)

Are you talking about.....

Wheel Wizard in Atlanta? They do a great job. One of my co-workers scuffed one of the rims on her 03 GS300. Only problem is she just scuffed another one (doh).....

Doh!!! I just got my Seki's today too - I got the Hyperblack though. Do you have any pics? I threw mine on tonight but it really needs to be lowered a bit. I have that gear en route :)

Here's a quick pic I took:

I linked it because I'm feeling too lazy to shrink it down...

heh well i did mine gunmetal, bought some wheel paint from autozone, clearcoat spray, and just when at it, no sanding or nothing, well i did sand the outer rim because of chips.....it came out good....next will be "bronze" when i get turbo kit in...

HI,

I bought mine from SENDAY, a tuning / stereo shop in the Doral area, in Miami, FL. They were around 1,299 + mounting + lug nuts and I saved on no-shipping/handling fees.

I also saw the Hyper-black option, but since anyway I knew I wanted to paint them in a much darker graphite-black tone, I really didn't bother.

Now I'm not so sure I can choose graphite or special colors with Powdercoating paints...

Later,
Andrs.:p
