How-To: Install Cobb Springs + Impressions afterwards.

Thanks for writing this up. I used it to install my Road Magnet springs today. The scissor jack trick was brilliant. Worked like a charm!

Oh and I don't know if it's been mentioned, but don't just pull the top of the dust cover off, Otherwise you'll separate it internally and toss little ball bearings everywhere. Luckily they all stayed fairly close together and I could put them back in.....

Install my Eibach's yesterday thanks to this guide. Everything was pretty straight froward thanks to this thread. It did take me 8 1/2 hours to do though (working in a small garage, no air tools, taking my time).

I tried the quarter trick, but it didn't really work out for me so well :)

I found that the scissor jack was great, it's just awkward positioning it but you'll find the sweet spot eventually. Once you have it mostly out, I found just placing my foot on the control arm and pressing down propped the strut out easily. Putting them back on was surprisingly easy.

One more thing, be very careful when popping out the rear suspension. Mine wouldn't break loose so I was underneath working on it which my friend jacked it up. It suddenly broke free and hit me in the head. It could of been really bad, but luckily it didn't hurt. Sound like obvious advice but after 8 hours it's easy to make stupid mistakes like that.

Question?..... ive lowered a srt4, type-r integra, and an eg hatch. the intructions with them said to cut the bumpstops according to the instuctions.
so has anyone cut the bumpstops with the cobb springs? (the srt4 and hatch have sprint springs btw!)

you could, but from what i remember, there's not a whole lot of bump stop to begin with, so i'm definitely not going back and cutting them. yes, the suspension travel is not very far, but it's still functional, so i'm not going to do anything permanent like cutting the bump stops...=d

Yes I cut mine. Cut them in half as instructed to do in the instructions.

i most likely will cut them, the srt-4 we did freakin rides smooth so the bump stops dont really change the ride from my experience.

I just printed my pdf format of the walkthrough, i will be doing mine sunday. Installing Dropzone springs which are 14 in the front and rear, so should be slightly lower than H&R.

I sure hope it doesnt take the whole 8 hours, I requested Monday off work to lay at home, play video games and relax, because a year ago i did the spindle-style spring removal for my wife's 2001 Jetta and that ****** took forever to get the fronts done and out. and it needed a spring compressor also.

i ahev done springs before that did not need to be compressed, but i will get it from autozone to be safe anyways. Getting those spindles apart was tough, i had tried the ratchet trick and that worked poorly, and my arms killed after beating the struts with a rubber mallet for 30-45 minutes. So I will see if the quarter trick and scissor jack method works on the speed3 this time. Maybe it was just the fact that my wife's car was 7 years old and had more wear and tear and the struts werent as new as the ones on the speed3 which should hopefully come out easier.

Thanks again for this glorious write-up!

Did it yesterday, took me 5 hours by myself to do it, with a few problems from the driver-side front strut going in and coming out. Passanger side front was a breeze tho.

The quarter method is great BUT, it pushed the quarter into the stupid black tab that goes between the spindle and doesnt allow the strut to fall in all the way or to be pulled out as it is pressed in there. Either way, install went fine, and can easily be done in less than 5 hours by yourself if you have the tools and dont have any issues like I had with the struts. But wI would recomment doing it with a friend to make it go faster!

****, i wanted to help with your install...oh well...

haha whay would you want to help with the install? I thought it was supposed to rain or be hella cloudy but the sun was out and it was hot outside. What would make it faster with 2 people is one person could do one side and the other side can be done by a friend.

I purposefully requested today off work so i could rest and relax at home, its very labor intensive and when you're as unfit/skinny as I am a spring install takes a toll on your body. I dont hurt as bad as when I installed Holly's springs on the Jetta, but my knees, ankles, and hands are pretty sore.

A quick word of thanks... this "how to" saved me a ton of time and effort (especially, the scissor jack trick). I was able to set the correct tools out in advance and know what had to be done. It took me less than 5 hours to do the whole car, alone... wrenching the spring compressors up and down took the most time. Again, thanks.
