How to install an Apexi Auto Timer w/ O2 AF

this might be a stupid question but do we need to install an additional O2 sensor in the Speed3 before tapping into the O2 sensor line on the ECU? or will the TT use the stock readings for the ECU and pass it to the TT

thanks in advance

i mean the black plastic tap. im having a problem with my STRI auto timer. its having hesitation when i shut off the engine, but quickly within a second power and the ignition came back on and waiting for countdown. i dont think thats normal. any clues????

I can't really speak for the STRI timer as this is a guide for the Apexi. Maybe suggest contacting STRI and if you find a solution, hey, post up a separate How-To, I'm sure other members here could benefit.

Well I installed my Apexi TT today and it works..........but the factory alarm doesn't arm when the doors lock. I have the RX8 shock sensor mod added to the factory alarm which makes it easy to check if the alarm is armed and working. So when I just normally lock the doors (without TT) the red light on the dash starts to flash and the factory alarm sets (shock sensor works). When I use the TT I still get the red light on the dash but it seems the factory alarm didn't arm since the shock sensor will no longer work. I tried running the blue wire to 12V+ (ACC switched) but that doesn't work either.

Any suggestions what to do to sort this out........

I have no clue as I don't run an alarm on my car. I don't pretend to be an expert here, I am curious, does the stock alarm (without the timer) arm if the engine is running and the handbrake is up? If not, then you will have to do some research on how to bypass that limitation.

I have this A'pexi turbo timer and haven't tried to install yet but i'm wanting it to go as smoothly as possible. Would these instructions be the same on a 03 MSP as the MS3? I haven't been able to find a write up on this exact timer with the MSP.. all mix and match with different timers or different cars. Any help would be appreciated.. i don't want to tear it apart and be stuck if it can be avoided.

I can't say if this works for the MSP as I'm pretty sure it's a different car. I would suggest contacting BrianMP5T (on the "other" forums as he's banned here). He's installed the ApexI in his MP5 which should be relatively the same... in fact the ApexI I have in my car right now is his old Auto Timer.

You shouldn't need to install a second sensor. Note that you are tapping into the narrowband 02 sensor and not the wideband 02. Wideband 02 sensors cannot be tapped into as it's wiring is a closed loop and any tapping will skew it's results.
Narrowband 02 sensors output a voltage and based on that voltage the gauge will estimate the AF. It's not at all accurate for functions like tuning and such. If you are looking for an accurate AF gauge, I would suggest either adding a second wideband o2 sensor onto your downpipe and hooking it up to a gauge like AEM or getting one of those gauges that will read the stock Wideband o2 sensor from the OBDII port (directly from the ECU). The Aeroforce Interceptor and the MSD Dashhawk are units that do this.

This works on my 2008 mazda 3i sedan! Thanks!!
