How-To: Install a Passenger Side Door Lock Switch

I've been gone for a while, good to see people are still using the guides.

eting_pro5, yes you are right in your thinking.

It's been months now, zero problems.
Except that my parents have a Protege also and want this mod.

-I got my switch from someone parting out a car.

Anyone know of another source, OR someplace willing to do a group-buy?

I would have to order that door lock switch. I should be able to get one form Mazda in several business days.
BJ0E-66-660A-65 DRIVERS POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH, OFF BLACK $26.25
OR
BJ0E-66-660A-80 DRIVERS POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH, BEIGE $26.25
Shipping by UPS ground in the 48 states $6 (our minimum charge)
Total $32.25
State sales tax applies in Texas. I would need an address to quote you shipping outside of the 48 states.
You can order that by replying to this email. I will need your name as it appears on your credit card, a shipping address, a daytime phone number, and credit card info. You can call me toll free at 1(877)967-6884 with the credit card info, but please put the rest in an email reply to help me avoid mistakes.

Thanks, Richard

Subject: door lock switch for 2001 Protege

Hey guys. I have ordered many things from your site and directly, some of which have appeared on the website shortly after recieving mine (the radio pocket). I have another part that I was wondering what the cost would be. I am looking for a spare power door lock switch. Their is a way to hook up a switch to the passenger door because, as you may know, the Protege does not have a switch on that side. I am looking to get one to do this mod, and I am sure that if you offer them at a reasonable price, the guys over at msprotege.com would order many more. Thanks in advance.

That is funny.
The dealer that runs mazdastuff.com is on my way to work.
I stopped in their parts area and asked, they told me $45
They also don't have silver zoom-zoom stickers :(

Well in either case $32 ain't bad for the extra functionality.

Car dealerships that have parts departments and web sites often quote discounted prices online only. Similar to airlines offering lower fares online.

So i just went home this weekend, and while driving the P5 i noticed that the passenger side has a handle that almost covers where the lock would go. I wish I had a picture to show everyone. Anyone with a P5 want to take a picture of the inside of the passenger door?

I think you could still install the switch, but it'd be difficult to get to and prolly wouldn't look as good.

i'm in the process of installing soon.. but just wanna get my facts straight.. i'm gonna install it in the shifter/cup holder plate.. and wire it to the ignition harness.. i have a diagram of it in detail
1) i found one green/white wire from one of the plugs, none of the other plugs have G/W wire.. so i assume to just tap into that for unlock? i'm guessing this is the same wire from the door?? so from the picture, bottom left corner, top tap, just tap into the B/L and G/W wire.. and i should be fine.. rite?
2) (if Q above is correct then) is this a grounding wire? i ask this b/c also doing a voltmeter and if that's ground i'll just tap that in as well... if not which wire is best to tap for + and -?? (sorry a lil OT)

yes. if you put your key in the passenger door and turn it, it will lock and unlock all the doors, the switch will use the same wires, so it will do the same.

why? that way the passenger can unlock all of the doors too...

yeah...thats the point of this thread.

i thought that it would only unlock the passanger door

ahh. in that case, just leave that side stock....same effect.

how can this be done so that the switch only unlocks the passenger door?

i don't want the driver door to unlock, or the rear doors on my MP5 if the pass. switch is used

oh, and what about if ya got kids? i don't remember if we have child-proof locks on here or not, so if the switch unlocks all the doors, that could cause a problem if some dumb kid tries to open the door

theres no way to prevent the switch unlocking all but we do have child door locks.

Holy rebirth of a thread!

Alright, so I've been thinking about how to get around the angled handle on the P5. Here's what I came up with. Let me know what you all think. I want to hear some blunt, honest opinions.
