HOW-TO: Install a MX-6 Rear Strut Tower Bar in a Protege5

ya, my first hole was about an inch off. pretty sad. good thing i only drilled a small hole for reference. the first real hole looks horrible cause i had to make it a lil bigger and it didn't widen clean. second one looks almost perfect.

definately love how tight it feels now

Common! Join the club! Best return for the money spent!

BTW I love your avatar. GO twilight princess. I have that game for my gamecube and I am hooked.

Thanks! Actually the first Zelda game I've ever played, and I'm a fan now... Definitely need to go back and play the earlier ones too.

count me in how much denaro??

the group buy was more expensive than ebay. see my links above and check them out. or do a separate search, some are cheaper but i wanted that specific design so i payed about 7 dollars more.

which one did you decide on getting? the plain silver one? it helps sooo much. i really notice it when i feel like whipping from a stop sign and stuff. its awesome. well worth the 28 i spent on it

That's one things I was really wondering, exactly how much it helps. If there's that much of a noticable difference, then for the price, this mod's a must do! :)

I'm thinking either the plain silver one, or possibly red...

i got the silver, it looks really good on the black interior. it just jumps out at you when you open the hatch. i love it

Mine arrived yesterday. Probably won't go on anytime soon though. Too much other stuff to work on.

does the rear of the car have to be jacked up in order for the strut bar to have any type of affect....i thought i read somewhere that the bar works better if the car is jacked up during installation

Yep(read all of this thread), You must jack up ther rear before you install the cross bar onto the brackets. If you don't the strut bar will be useless and will not be serving its purpose. When you jack up the rear end it takes the weight off the rear struts and returns them to there original position. So when you put the bar on the brackets and tighten it, from then it keeps the struts in that better position so that it improves your cars handling.

ok got it...so jack the rear up before installing the bar.

if you want it to work properly yes you will have to jack everytime u install it. ruins the whole point of it being quick release

If Anyone who has done this could go out and measure to the center of the bracket from the bottom and measure from the side would help alot. If someone can pick a good spot to measure the sides from.

for example:
Driver's side
xx" from bottom of trunk with trunk floor pad installed
xx" from rear seatback (or whaterver)

Passenger's side
xx" from bottom of trunk with trunk floor pad installed
xx" from rear seatback (or whaterver)

Thank you.

Just got mine in and installed. Not bad for a $6.99 part.
