How to fix window surround oxidation?

tried to find a pic online but this is the best i could come up with, i underlined the area i'm talking about... NOT the two pillars between the door windows, but the black plastic strip running along the bottom...

mine's a bit faded and i'm looking to make it look fresh/new again... any ideas/suggestions?

my dad used to have this stuff called "back to black" for oxidation but it only really works temporarily.

when i wash my car i use tire shine on it, but thats also only temporary. i wonder if you could use black shoe polish?

Here in AZ (the sun is brutal on trim) I use

after a good wash and then give all the rubber trim and metal pillars a light coat of Turtle Wax Ice synthetic polish. Works surprisingly good without a 'sticky' shine and does not attract & hold dirt or dust. It'll last for about 3 months before any touch up may be needed. Give it try and nix the shoe polish idea as you could end up with polish on your hands or clothes if you brush against it.

Those on my car are completely sunbaked and trashed. I use back to black and it looks decent for a day or two then dries out.

i used back to black again today and it def doesn't quite do the trick anymore...

it works great when there is subtle fading, but not when it's really patchy and super dried looking (my case). i'm gonna look into paints once i can figure out how to detach it from the car. saw on a BMW forum these guys were sanding/painting theirs because the original was chrome, looked awesome in black and the stuff they used held up.

so we'll see...

Could be wrong but I remember a thread from way back that some discovered it was tape. If so you can get some 3M or equivalent blackout tape or use high performance black matte vinyl to re do it.

i believe the pillars between the windows are tape, but i don't think the bottom part is... mine is faded/raw looking with no evidence of peeling anywhere. regardless though, i might be able to cover them with a 3M tape... a friend is stopping by this week who fixed his on his VW (w/ paint) so i'll see how it looks on his whip before doing anything myself...
