How to cure Cel/Mil from removing cat with Non-Fouler

Sounds good. And yes, driving around town I get about 22mpg, but I used that whole tank on the interstate going 75-80mph with only about 20 miles driven on city streets. Man I hold the gas just a bit longer before shifting so I can hear that thing growl, I dont get any mpg worth bragging about on the streets, not with the way I drive. lol

Yup she feels great driven with a little spirit (Perfect gearing for burning arround town) & Im going to miss her quite a bit.

Sounds like your enjoying your new header.. the best I got with all the mods listed below was 31 going from Killeen Tx, to Dallas, TX. I usually average 26/27 normal highway to and from work.. even lower in town.

to sum it up Im pretty sure I tossed some screws threw the motor, and posible spun a rod bearing. I definatly fried the s*** out of the piston rings ect.

Heres what happened. Since day 1 Mobile 1 with .3 qt of Lucas oil Stabalizer (after the 3.7 of oil, to keep her from starving the 4th piston in corners) and changes after 5k (kilometers, not even miles) I also whent for the gold in tranny fluid.

Im in line at Tim Hortons waiting in the drive through & I notice the snow steeming off my hood a little more then usual and thhe temp guage a tad higher then usual. I pull over and check the oil the dip stick is bone dry, and the b**** is a Qt and a half below full (thats how much it took to get her full) after cool down. I was very surprised as she had the oil changed 3k before, & I had checked her after 2k. So this ment I lost a qt and a half in 1k of normal driving.

I heard the motoor was known to drink a little oil, what motoor doesnt, so I decided to keep e even closer eye at the oil. I did a full change and kept a eye out. 3k go buy and all is normal, well Im at full, so it apears as if shes not heavy drinking the oil anymore.

1.5k go buy and I hear a weird sound as I pull a U turn. Its a sound no car owner wants to hear, a LOUD tick as she revs and going with the revs. I also notice thhe oil light flicker for a sec then go off as Im doing this U turn. Her temp is perfectly normal.

I check her oil...... BONE DRY I have oil in the trunk I toss it in and the LOUD tic subsided to a low tick.

I looked at the car and said "Im done" Whatever the **** thhe issue is, even if fixed throughh the warrenty, the warrenty wont be thhere for much longer, and there hasnt been anything to fix these common issues other then to fix whats broke untill it breaks again.

I personaly drive my car a little harder then most, but I also maintained my car alot more vigorously then most, and these issues should not of hapened, and when I think "had this been a Honda I wouldnt be in this situation", I get pissed off.

So I havnt even taken the car in to Mazda yet, Im selling off my performance parts then bringing her in for warenty work and selling her after.

Ill always miss her, & always wish Mazda made the FSDE a little tougher.

Yeah, I wish I was. I wish finding that perfect girl that your gonna spend the rest of your life with was just as easy as going to the dealer and picking out a nice brand new shiny one that hasnt ever been ridden hard before.

Subscribing to this... I had given up all hope of getting the OBX installed until this thread popped up. I might be able to pull this off! God, I am such a newb.

will the method work on turbo applications as well?

Well the only cats on a turbo exhaust are past the J-pipe right? Is there a post cat sensor somewhere? If there is I cant see why it wouldnt work.

Do i need to have a header to do this install? I was considering removing both cats and placing a pipe in place. If i get a bung installed on the pipe and use the non-foulers will this work ?

I have only read through a few pages of this so it may have been covered already. but I have found an issue if you have an aftermarket "universal" 02 sensor (like I have).
I had previously replaced my 02 sensor with a "universal" Bosch part. The 02 sensor only cost $80 at Advanced auto, whereas they wanted $250 for a OEM style direct replacement. The main difference being the plug- with the universal sensor, you have to cut the cord and splice the connector on the end (which was pretty easy- all parts were included).
HOWEVER, I am finding that the universal sensor has a larger "head" on it and won't fit in the non fouler with only a 1/2" drilled out. I have stepped it up to a 9/16" and its still too tight so I need to reem it out a little with a dremel. I haven't finished it yet, but I think it should work. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up. I'll let you know what I figure out.
