How stupid am I?

Ok, I know I haven't been around in a awhile but I still talk with many of you through Xbox Live. I woke up last night at about three in the morning and realized that I had left my cell phone in the car. I use my cell phone as my alarm clock so I went out to go and get it. When I got to my car I realized how much of a fool I was. I live in washington and we have been going through a cold streak here ad earlier in the day I had the heater on and it got hot and instead of turning the heater off I decided to open the sunroof so that I could continue to have hot air blowing on me but not getting to hot......does that even make sense??? oh well. So it decided to rain but not just any rain it was freezing rain. I opened up my car door and saw an 1/4 inch of Ice all over my two frony leather seats. Well I spent three hours cleaning it up and lucky nothing inside was ruined. So here is my problem.....My sunroof will now only close about two inches. I tried closing it when there was ice on it and it didn't close at all. Now it only closes a little and no the motor does not keep running after it stops. Is it the chain that has slipped? I am stumped and need to know if this is something i can fix or if I should take it in and spend money through my nose....thanks and sorry for the huge letter....

there was and now it is all gone. I went out with a blow dryer and dryed it all off. I am wondering if when I first tried that might have knocked the chain off and now the mechanism just wont let the chain roll forward anymore?

I really hope for your sake that the timing is just off and that is what is causing it. I had mu sunroof fixed last week and it ended up being a broken cord (which pulls and closes the sunroof) it was a $1700 part. They are going to need to take the sunroof apart though to know exactly what is wrong

yeah but did yours even move at all when you had your problem?
And 1700 for one part of a sunroof??? I looked into getting a sunroof put in an my last car just for fun and it was 2000 with everything said and done. I thought that was a lot so 1700 for one part seems like your getting ripped off man...

It's because most of the items are sold as a whole unit.

my sunroof did almost exactly what yours is doing based off of your explanation. the good and bad part about my situation is that i know for a fact that i didnt get ripped off because the service manager is my brother.

Damn man, sorry to hear, junkyard time perhaps? you might wanna try removing your roofliner and taking a peek to see what's goingon. Notsure where you're at in WA, or even if you're talking about Washignton state, or DC, but I'd be happy to lend a hand if you're anywhere close to yakima. if we need I've been meaning to pull my roofliner as well, we could yank mine to see how it SHOULD look.

thanks for the offer posuer but I live in Maple valley which is close to kent.....so thats like two hours. I looked at taking off the head liner and checking it out. It seems pretty easy to take it off so I think I am going to try that first. I am wondering though, if this is a problem I can't fix on my own then should I take it to a dealer or can a auto shop handle something like this? Thanks for the help so far and I will keep you updated....

You might try at least calling a shop that installs sunroofs. They may also do repairs, and likely would do so for less than a dealership.

Get in touch with ZapWizard and see if he's come up with that circuit for closing the moonroof when it rains.
