how many?

Found out yesterday that the light comes on (then turns off if I turn) almost right at 12 gallons.

Mine comes on around 8-10 liters (roughly 2.0-2.5 gallons).

One thing that made a huge difference for me was changing my rear O2 sensor; it was broken and I got about 400km (~250mi) on a tank. This morning my needle was at the halfway mark and the trip odometer was reading 270km (~168mi).

It's probably a waste of money to change your O2 sensors prematurely, but if the check engine light comes on and that's the problem, it's worth the money to change it just for the added fuel economy.

the rear 02 sensor isn't supposed to have any actual effect. unless the CEL is on.. then your car is running rich all the time, which will obviously kill fuel econ.

Yeah, the CEL was on and the sensor was dead. I did the test in the service manual and I was getting weird voltage readings: it would start off positive then swing down to -0.5 volts when I opened up the throttle.

With my normal driving, which is all city and I have auto, I get 23mpg, which puts me in 330miles a tank range. Highest I got in the city was 26mpg, and all I had to do is keep the shifts under 2800rpms, and plug my ears. highest highway only was 32mpg with avg speed of 72mph. I'm sure manual's can break the 500m/800km range.
I 2nd Sethro's find, 12 gallon mark is when the annoying yellow blob comes on.

dam 400? i got lucky the other day and got 390 and i had like .5 gallons left lol
i filled up 12.5 gallons so i know that s*** was empty

my average is around 380-370 miles

I thought the P5 had a 14 gallon tank not a 13 gallon tank. I may be wrong but I'll have to look at my gas log tonight cuz I swear Ive put over 13gal in before. I ussually get about 30mpg and around380-400mi/tank
