I wanted to know if this was a local or a national thing. There have been a bunch of CX-7 commercials were the voiceover prounounces Mazda real weird. He says it so that the 'Maz' rhymes with Taz (Looney Toons character!).

Anyway, it's definitely noticeable. Has anyone else seen these commercials?

SSO Whatchas got? A problum wit my accent? I shud make ya swim with the fishes

who cares....it's an accent.

It's definitely not an accent. It's mispronunciation. People who have no connection to Mazda at all were talking about how weird it is.

Funny

"While television ads for Mazda automobiles in the United States use a pronunciation where the initial vowel sound is similar to the word "mod", Canadian Mazda advertisements pronounce the company's name with the initial "a" sound of the word "can". "

PROPER pronounciation would be rhyming with Taz

Like Tazmania

Mazda

It's the way it's pronounced in other parts (or the rest) of the English speaking world - ie. England, Australia, Canada, etc... It's strange to hear it pronounced that way when you've heard it the American way for so long. I say who cares. If it's a mispronunciation then we are the ones mispronunciating ( I know that's not a word) it.

i used to say maz(taz)da but i got corrected by dumb americans so i say ma(like hey ma, when's dinner ready)da.

Wasn't it an indian name?' Well yes, it is. Actually it is pronounced mil-a -waauu -kee. 'Meaning the good land.'
