How do I improve start up performance

An optima red or yellow top will make your car crank faster and start a little sooner, but it'll still take a couple turns.

get a optima red top

that did it for me starts up alot better

I wonder if a prelube system would make startups faster. their main purpose is to reduce the engine wear at startup, but maybe it can benefit start times too.

I find it kinda funny to put in a lot of effort into start times, but I am also interested at the same time how fast you could possibly do it, lol. You should start a new league of racing for fastest startups.

Have you heard of an accusump?

It's a pre-oiler/oil pressure accumulator. When you start your car, a valve opens and sends motor oil under pressure into the system. when the engine is running and the system's oil pressure normalizes, it accumulates pressurized oil. If the oil pressure ever drops below a preset level, it releases high pressure oil into the system. I've been thinking about getting one, because I'm scared by the recent oil-starvation threads. I'm thinking if you want an instantaneous start, you're definitely going to have to add this to the equation. If somebody didn't already mention it, I'd make sure everything in the fuel system is within spec, too-- fuel pressure regulator, injectors, etc.

High output batt + ignition upgrade + oil pressure accumulator + fuel system = vroom!

yeah, that's what I was talking about: pre-lube, pre-oiler, accumulator, whatever you wanna call it. I was thinking about getting one at one point. I'd be interested to hear how that goes if you get one.

I don't really see what you would be doing to your injectors and fuel pressure regulator though. It's not like you are maxing them out or something.

I've priced it out at over $400 dollars, so, we may never know.

Regarding fuel, I just meant to check that everything is working as it's supposed to.

No offense but that has nothing to do with making your car "better".

If it's important to you though, try this:

Turn the key to the point where all the guages go on, then pump the gas pedal once and as you start to let off the gas pedal crank the starter. This may help "prime" the injectors and get you a quicker start up.

Try getting another battery with a lot of cold cranking amps.

butjust run an open header... that will give you something to look forward to when you turn the car on.

or buy a hybrid.. then you wont hear s***....

You mentioned it takes longer to startif the car sits. That sounds like the battery losing its charge. When you scrape up the cash, go get the Optima.

Good luck!

don't you mean "Optima" ?

anyway, I'm not sold on them, you can get a good battery with a high cold crank rating at Farm and Fleet for $40 - $60

that is what I said! (bang). Man, not thinking, home sick today...

I have not heard any bad things about their batteries. I know Interstate makes a solid battery too. But the Auto Zone, Advanced Auto, and Sears Die Hard battere is I have heard a lot of problems with.

I'm not knocking the Optimas, they make damn good batteries, but I can't justify the cost personally...

I am still on my factory battery. I have no stereo system, so I guess it helps. I know it is a ticking time bomb. But yeah, it is expensive. But on all my old cars I had, the bargan auto parts stores battereis, from the 12 month wal mart crapo, to the ultra spiffy 100 bajillion year battereis from auto parts stores just never lasted long. I bought a $100 Interstate for one car, lasted the 4 years I owned it, never died. But for $120, I can have higher craking amps, and the same durability, I am getting the Optima. I just gotta figure out a decent tie down thatis not a fancy milled aluminum one.

I'm still on the stocker too. From what I hear, as long as you get the tray that comes with the Optima (some places don't sell it with the tray), it fits in the stock location/tiedown.
