Horn change!

The amount of sleepy drivers at green lights and those that do not check their blind spots in the Toronto area is too much...on top of other countless stupid stuff in big cities and suburbs
One of these mounted on the roof would be slightly more effective than the CX-5 horn....

My 2014 CX-5 GT is only 2 weeks old and I am otherwise quite happy with it. The last thing I thought I would have to try during my otherwise thorough test-drive prior to deciding upon this car was the horn! The day I got it, I drove over to show it to some friends and when I honked the horn as a "good-bye", they all laughed! Embarrassing! Seriously, Mazda: Did you buy a bunch of leftover Vespa motor-scooter horns for this model? (they obviously have not upgraded it from the 2013 model). This horn has to go - and soon! If a '14 Mazda 6 horn will fit and the dealer will do it without breaking the bank, sign me up!

Good comparison! It sounds like the 6 has twin horns. One the same note/tone as the CX-5's single horn plus a higher note/tone. Definitely a bit more up-market sounding!

There's another thread on here somewhere. The bumper/grille assembly needs to be removed. Then they added a pair of PIAA horns to the radiator support and used the OEM wiring. Very slick install.

AVOID THESE AT ALL COSTS!!!! Not worth the money!

It looked like the perfect solution to me too, but mine was nothing but problems. I was starry-eyed like any new owner when I picked it up from Mazda and failed to do a walk-around with a critical eye. So, within a week I noted the following:

1. fluid leak from one recoil buffer piston cylinder
2. rattles from the mount when driving on anything other than smooth roads.
3. mis-aligned trunnions
4. optical targeting adapter for close-in work (useless without it, really) was outsourced to Tom Tom (say no MORE!)
5. remote fire control switch is located on the dash to the left of and hidden by the steering wheel

The first and only time I attempted to use it there was a misfire, all the dash lights came on at once, and I had to limp home in not more than second gear. The lights seemed to correct themselves after leaving the 5 parked for the night, but I haven't tried to use it since. Am still being ignored by Mazda Canada in my attempts to get the whole thing removed and my money back.

Not to mention the added weight with carrying those depleted uranium shells... your MPG goes wayyy down!

After beeping the horn for the first time yesterday I was downright embarrassed.

Ive got a set of hella supertones sitting on the shelf that Ill see if I can install.
Id rather have it wired to its own switch though, the stock horn is better for getting peoples faces out of their iphones when the light turns green.
Supertones are urban defense weaponry.

Driving through San Bernardino the other day on the I-215 on some damn transition ramp when a f#*!&ng train blew its horn right underneath us, we all about dropped a load in our respective undergarments! I had absolutely no idea the tracks were right below the ramp, I thought some asshat was unhappy with my speed.

A suggestion for you lazy (or just busy) types: I just had my local dealer switch out the wimpy one-note original horn in my 2014 CX-5 GT with a dual-note horn from the previous (outgoing) model Mazda 6. It is not as loud or "Germanic" sounding as the new Mazda 6 horn, but at least it isn't embarrassing. It sounds a lot more upscale and authoritative and much more in keeping with a $30k car. The other plus with the 2012 M6 horn is that it is all in one unit on a single mounting bracket and can be placed in the same location as the original horn - versus the new M6 horns, which are two separate units and are placed on either side of the radiator. I first asked the parts dept. for a new Mazda 6 horn but they found only two - a high note in Toronto, Canada and a low note somewhere in Texas. Plus, they wanted $70 + - for the horns plus $10 to get it here (Los Angeles area) quickly. The 2012 M6 horn was only $30 + - and they got it for me next day. All in all, under $200 installed. Since I lease my cars, I wanted to be sure it was a compatible Mazda unit and would be installed by a Mazda tech. I would have tried it myself if I didn't have 10 thumbs. All in all, and for what it's worth; I am very happy with the decision.
