hood mod

has ne one ever tried to take off the stock hood and then place spacers on the mounts ? my friend w/ a 240 did this ( cuz it's the jdm drifter thing to do !) and i thought that maybe this would help w/ the cooling of the engine bay a lil' bit. i was going to try it last sunday, but i couldn't find my ratchet or a monkey wrench that's the right size, and the vice grip would just slip and scratch the nuts. ne body else try this yet ? i think it looks pretty cool too to have the hood raised just a lil' bit. it looks like it's raised a lil' bit...then again someone might think ur hood got fcked hehe..but yeah, i'mma try it sometime ! okae, g'night people !

"dont waste your time"?

If everyone had this mentality, every car on the road would be the same. The same cookie cutter looking POS that anyone can drive.

Be different. Jesus.

instead of doing that... u can just remove that platic lining on the bottom of the stock hood. much easier to do than unbolting your hood. it may let cold air in, but water will be unavoidable... be careful. a little water wont do much, but doing this for a looooonnnggg time will cause some damage in the long run - chris

yeah, i don't really wanna do the whole weatherstripping thing..i don't like removing rubber things 'cause rubber saves stuff, like water from pouring in ! maybe when it's summer time, but for now i'll stick w/ it. i'll see about the hood mod

many people do that mod or remove the front weather strip. I did it on my brother's Protege to help cool the air since he installed a short ram intake. He's been driving it like that for 2 years with no problems. I think it works becuase the engine compartment does not seem as hot after a hard run.
I find it very funny when a person is afraid of removing a weather strip for fear of water entering the engine bay and that same person has a cold air intake. The amount of water splashing from under the car is a lot more that the litle water that can enter the engine compartment for not having a weather stripping. Has anyone seen the engine after driving engine rain with mud on the road?
If this and other litle mods do not work, why do racing teams do it? Because very litle bit helps!!
Some people also say that doing a throtle body bypasss does not help so why the N1 team in Japan do it to their car?
I read one time that every 10 deg = 1 HP.

whats the worst that could happen from water entering the engine bay? you say damage will occur in the long run, explain please.

nothing will happen...i wash my engine bay with high pressure wash at the car wash. all its gotten me was a trophy.

well water enters anyways through the grille so its not like its really dry in there

it will get on the top of the engine I guess but that shouldnt hurt anything really

sure wont. ive been told cold water on a hot head would possibly crack the block, but it hasnt happened to me, though i wait for it to cool for now. but as far as the little ass amount of water getting in, thats :bs: trust me. my engine bay looks no different (water spots, etc) without the weather stripping. btw ive had it off for several torrential downpours and about 1 month or so now.

sorry i haven't tried it yet...not much time for doing things to my car. i barely put on my turbo timer this morning.

if u want to try it just try taking off the bolts from where the hood mounts on its hinge and stick washers between where the hood and the bolts make contact...i'm not sure how many to stick in there but i'd probably start out w/ 3 or less just to be safe. so yeah, good luck w/ that.

it looks cool on ragged drift cars with sharp "cut pedestrians in half" cf hoods and scratched up front ends from drifting off curbs, but don't do it to your beautiful MSP! :D

comin from a guy that used to own a 240sx dont waste ur time with the "lifted hood" treatment...unless u wanna be jdm tite there is no point....drifters in japan do it for cooling purposes cus air doesnt get into the front of the car when ur car is goin sideways :) again.....its not gonna offer a huge about of gain unless u want the car to look like its been in a accident

well duhh i knew that. i was merely stating the fact that if i did the mod it would help to cool the engine bay a lil' bit :) and lifting the hood up from the hinges won't help air get in sideways...hoods aren't hinged on one side. they're hinged nearest the cabin. lifting it up will allow air to pass through not only underneath the car but now under the hood away from the engine.
