HKS Super Megaflow Air intake installed

it was about a 30 minute job..easy to swap in. no CEL no rough idling. yet.

the only bad thing is the HKS instructions suck. they tell you to put the super mega flow filter in with the air temp sensor near the bottom....this makes the sensor hard to plug in and also makes the HKS logo on the filter backwards. ahhhhhhh, im sure the air temp sensor should be on top.

it's either a pretty quiet intake or my exhaust is drowning out any sounds. at high speeds i hear the air being sucked into the air intake duct and being redirected onto the filter. it does not make the sucking sounds like a CAI.

overall it was a pretty good buy

hey nice filter. wut made u go with hks? i just though about it, i think youre the first person i ever saw with that intake on coool. good job dude - chris

I don't know about you, but my intake is WAY louder than the racing beat muffler I have

hey theMAN, maybe i hooked it up wrong or something? i went and double checked now...everything is as it should be. all connections are tight. if i stand outside the car i can hear it but not when im inside...my exhaust is the axel back mazdaspeed one btw.

is your filter hooked up with the ATS on top or bottom?

later- i don't like injen, not because of performance or quality issues.. just a personal thing. i know i'm not the the first p5 with an HKS, i've seen it before on mpsport.net and also shawnthemonster had one installed. i guess i got it cuz of what you said. not a lot of people have it =D

Aren't you supposed to remove the stock resonator/plumbing that leads to the stock filter box? From your pic, it looks as if you left it on. Maybe that's why it's so quiet.

hmmm, yeah thats it.

its cool though, without the extra tubing the filter is angled low and the air intake duct doesn't have anythign to snap onto on the bottom.

i also don't want to turn up my music any louder....with the mazdaspeed and HKS it would be nuts =D

thanks shaunmp5

(lol)

whats an ave price for just the filter? I think it would be a good replacement for what comes with the ebay intakes.

The only problem I have with that set up is:

Before, the engine would draw air from a cooler source...now it draws from underhood, engine-heated air. :-/

har 115 for just the filter, grrrr.
anyone know if they sell good knock offs anywhere =P

I think I will just replace my ebay one with K&N lik I originally intended.

So, was that all it came with?

The filter element
Filter housing

Does it have the same effect as any other SRI?

Oh yeah, and another thing, is the throttle body and that bracket near the master cylinder the only thing holding it up now?

You would be better off with the stock airbox set-up! Now your just sucking in hot air from the back of your radiator. May sound "Cool" but it isn't doing s*** for ya!

the filter is washable so you don't need to chuck it after it starts getting black.

i can't hear the sucking sounds too much except at high speeds. if i open my window when i turn my car off i can hear it turning off.

ssmp5-how so? the stock airbox is in the same location and enclosed in a plastic box so its getting hot air too. also, on mine i left the airduct on so i am still getting air from the front just like stock except it blows onto the filter instead of going into the stock box.. i am more concerned of it sucking too much water during rain season than hot air.

still no CEL or idle problems

canmp5- there is one bracket holding up the whole assembly. but keep in mind how much lighter this is then the stock airbox, its all fine.

also, HKS's filter has all these crazy design innovations, etc.. etc.. all the info is on their site. hence the high price.

if you did RTM, you would know the filter is NOT washable

if you wash it, the foam will fall to pieces and it gets sucked into the engine

this is how foam air filters got a bad name
